  • Re: The picnic is back!

Also, in this vein, trying to sign the hut books at Herepai, Drac, Andersons, Maungahuka, Kime and Alpha within one 24hr period is quite doable, however getting right out to Kaitoke within that same period was just a touch too far.  cheers Kieran and Ben that was a great trip!  and big ups to Guy and Belle - sounds trite but couldn't ...

The calendar event is a trip to Carkeek hut but I may be taking my dad to the Wairarapa air show instead...but this doesn't mean that the trip or some alternative can't happen ...

  • Re: Extended pre-Christmas trip

Further, or in addition to this would anyone be keen to shadow a Duke of Edinburgh tramping party? They are a keen group of 1st year venturers trying to finish their Gold Duke of Edinburgh.  They would like to complete their gold tramp before the end of January but need to do a practice tramp first and then notify the DoE 6 weeks prior to the ...

There is then around 2 hours drive and up to a 5 hour walk ...

  • Carkeek

yo yo soI went to the huts meeting and had a chat about the fact that Carkeek is a wee tad moldy.  The guy in charge of that area had heard about it, but wasn't quite sure why the mold was happening, as there are plenty of huts of this design without the problem.  He was quite keen to have a group go and have a look, and see if they could try and ...

  • Tararua Tramping This Weekend

Hi Everyone   This weekend I’m keen to head into the Tararuas for a weekend tramp.   If I can bag my (this time) last Tararua hut (South Ohau) that will be all the more satisfying.   At present the tentative plan is to head into the Northern Tararuas on Friday night.  From there, depending on interest and fitness ...

  • 3 Day Tararua Tramp

Hi Everyone  With ANZAC Day on Friday this weekend is a 3 day weekend and an opportunity to get well into the Tararuas. There's a range of options, and the grade of trip will depend on sign ups.  Options could include a Carkeek attempt, including a stop at the recently improved Dorset Ridge hut and Arete forks, or an ...
