(This would be the trip I'd love to run for this weekend... but I decided to stay in Wellington, after several weekends of tramping)
Loosely following Anita's instructions for planning a trip, I wrote up what is required:
We need you!
and a car, driver and some more participants!
This is a medium overnight trip to the eastern Tararuas, ...

Hi there!
I'm keen on getting out on Sunday and the weather looks awesome...
On top of the pile of exploration trips and un-hiked tracks is Block XVI track, not too far away from the Kaitoke Roadend. At the bottom of this track is the sunny old site of Allaway-Dickson Hut (50s to 70s), I'd love to locate and have lunch time ...

Hi there!
Can't imaging staying in Wellington with this forecast...
Maungahuka Loop is a bit like the big brother of the Holdsworth-Jumbo Circuit - which Manoel does from Friday to Saturday. The actual cover photo of the VUWTC facebook page gives you an impression what the landscape is like. (Track and tramp are by no means comparable to ...

I'm keen on going to Mt Hector on Sunday. Who would like to join?
It is a 4 to 5h walk (one way) from Otaki Forks going up for about 1400m. The views will be rewarding (if the weather reports hold their promises) and we can have a look to the progress of the works on new Kime hut.

Hi there!
The weather is pretty much undecided, so I thought of something ''valley, 1/2 standard, 1/2 off the beaten track'':
Let's go to Sayer Hut (DOC page, NZ topomap and a nice description here).
Here is a no car-version of the over-night tramp:
Saturday: We catch the Wairarapa service (9:55 AM from Wellington Station) to Woodside, walk ...

Hi there!
I'll run a medium - medium fit trip this weekend: The loop track from Otaki Forks, Waitewaewae Hut, Aokaparangi (Biv), Maungahuka Hut, Kime, Field Hut and back to Otaki Forks (this is clockwise, we might go the other way round...), see another post for more details .
This trip is only (upper end) medium because we walk on Friday for ...

By now (Sunday) the weather is right on track, bringing southerlies and snow in the beginning of this week.Maungahuka Hut is a well built hut at 1300m with a beautiful view north towards Arete, Mitre and Holdsworth - but without heating! (DOC web page) The hut is located next to the (infamous) Tararua Peaks
(steel ladder!), which become pretty ...

Hi there!
The weather is .... this weekend (July 14th), so I did the research for the 'Snowy Tararuas' trip (27 to 29th of July) today.Maungahuka Hut is a well built hut at 1300m with a beautiful view north towards Arete, Mitre and Holdsworth - but without heating! (DOC web page) The hut is located next to the (infamous) Tararua Peaks (steel ...

Want to go to my first snow this year!
(As usual) Metservice is pretty undecided about this weekend - so it is not clear what we can do over the bush line/snow line - so here is my dream:
Take a car to Pak&Save on Friday (June 15th) and start walking from The Pines/Masterton at 8PM. - We should make it to Mitre Flats Hut before ...

So I thought it would be great to get out on a day trip on monday, probably of a vage ''M'' grading. If someone has a car I like the sound of going up mt holdsworth, but mt hector (or at least kime) is equaly possible. If no-one has a car I think the choice is limeted to Mt reeves or kapakapanui, of these two kapakapanui is a much nicer track ...
