A pretty perfect afternoon at new Maungahuka

The new Maungahuka on a great day.  Perched on the tops of main Tararua range. Sleeps: 10-12 on 2 bench bunks Heating: None, though it is double glazed. Camping:  Some tops camping, though of course you'd want weather like this to really enjoy it.

There have been too many long drops too close to this tarn for too many years to want to take the relationship beyond a photo.....

A great afternoon for sunbathing

This hut was replaced in 2006.  On a good day there are wonderful views of the Otaki and Waiohine catchments, while on a usual day this hut can feel a long way away from civilization.  A place that has seen its fair share of epics.
