Elder loop - 20-22 April 2012
Who: Chris, Ivan, Dom, Hazel and Pia
Hunter car park at 6pm - yay, time for another tramping weekend in the Tararua. This time the Elder-Renata loop from Otaki Forks. No tramping without food so we had our food-stop at Pack'n'Safe Porirua.

This weekend we will be heading to Tutuwai Hut for Gourmet. What is Gourmet? It's when we leave behind the plain, boring tramping food and get a little bit fancy with the meal. We even pack dessert!
The trip is an easy 3-4 hour walk to the hut from Waiohine road end (about an hours drive from Wellington), with an emphasis on fine dining and ...

The trips going away this weekend is divided into a Medium-Easy and a Medium fitness group.

I was wondering about some kind of Tararua trip, 'im not too fused about what route or grading or how many days it turns out to be.
I dont have a car so public Transport might be a wachword hear, with this in mind I was wondering about Mt reevs to Kapakapanui, as both look 1h-ish ...

This weekend Jussi and Anne decided to walk me in the Tararua Ranges.On Saturday morning we caught the train to Woodside (the station after Featherston) and followed for an hour on a quiet metalled road to the Mt Reeves nature reserve. From there on they let me free of the leash and I ran forward and backward, climbed trees and showed my masters ...

On Saturday we take the train (!) to Woodside (Wairarapa) - 14 NZD pp. It leaves 9:55 from Wellington Station.
From there we go to Tutuwai Hut (pretty easy, 3 tickets, gas stoves installed) and - if we are keen - further up to Alpha Hut (river
crossing + 900 m up, 1 ticket).
On Sunday, we go out to Kaitoke. A taxi from there is about 40 ...
