  • Arete Biv (old hut)

    Old Arete Biv was in a stunning location on a bench below Mt Arete and looks into the headwaters of the Waingawa river.  The spring of Arete stream issues forth in a flourish of green among the dun tussocks and is the water supply.  It was removed in 2007

  • Aokaparangi Biv (old)

    'Aokap' biv is situated just inside the bush edge on the eastern side of Aokaoparangi a main range bump.  Sleeps: 2 or 3 on the floor (if you don't mind rot) Heating: None Camping: You could find some tent/fly spots at the bushedge or just outside the biv.

  • Arete Forks

    Arete Forks hut is located at the confluence of the Arete Stream and the Waingawa river.  It is prone to flooding, and a few years ago the toilet was recovered from down the Waingawa river!   • Atiwhakatu (old hut)

    Atiwhakatu Hut is located at the base of the climb up Raingauge spur to Jumbo Hut.  1 - 2hrs from Holdsworth lodge  Sleeps: Eight or so on bench bunks Heating: Open fire Camping: Yes, plenty of scope to camp all the way along the Atiwhakatu.

  • Blue Range Hut

    Blue Range is a quirky, cosy four bunk hut on the Blue Range and is a popular friday night destination from Kiriwhakapapa. Sleeps: Four bunks, floor space for at least four more. Heating: A potbelly Camping: Yes, on the grass outside.

  • Cattle Ridge Hut

    Cattle Ridge is superbly located on a bench at the scrub line on Cattle Ridge.

  • Cone Hut

    Cone Hut is of historical significance as a slab hut.  It lies at the top end of the Tauherenikau river, 2-3hrs from Walls Whare. Sleeps: About 8 or 10 on a platform. Heating: Open fire. Camping: Lots.

  • Cow Creek

    Cow Creek hut lies at a prominent bend in the Waingawa river.  A pleasant weekend destination. Sleeps: 6 Heating: Pot belly. Camping: Yes, plenty.

  • Dorset Ridge

    Dorset Ridge is another wonderfully remote Tararua hut, it lies at the bush edge on the eastern side of Dorset Ridge.  Since this photo was taken the fireplace has been removed. Sleeps: 6 Heating: The potbelly was removed so until rennovations occur there is none. Camping: Some is possible in the grass around the hut.

  • Dracophyllum Biv

    This is the new Drac Biv.  It is situated on the main range between Pukematawai and Nicholls hut. Sleeps: 2 plus one on the floor. Heating: None Camping: Quite limited.
