A character hut, popular with deer stalkers. On the true left of the Waiohine at Totara Flats.
Sleeps: Four on the bunks.
Heating: Open fire.
Camping: Lots.

Located at the southern end of the Tauherenikau just below the Puffer Saddle track to Kaitoke. Good camping exists nearby and should be utlised.
Sleeps: The 'sleeping bench' is to be removed and replaced with sitting benches that are wide enough to sleep on. Hmm.
Heating: No.

This biv was removed some years ago. Today only leatherwood enthusiasts drop off Dundas ridge en route to Roaring Stag Lodge.

This hut was removed from the Mangahao valley in 2001. It wasn't lamented.

This biv was removed in 2005 and a new four bunk mini hut/large biv was built closer to the top of the ridge.

An eyesore on the Waiopehu ridge. It did have water though (2004).

Like Eric and Adrian (pictured) the old Drac biv deteriorated with age and in 2000 it was removed and replaced with a stand-up biv.

Commonly accepted as the best hut in the Tararuas, Carkeek lies just inside the bush edge on Carkeek Ridge and is a difficult hut to reach by Tararua standards, a good level of fitness and navigation ability is essential. The Carkeek Picnic is a VUWTC tradition - Ohau - Holdsworth in a day via Carkeek

This is an older photo. This hut was removed and another one was built slightly further south by DoC and the Horowhenua Hunting club.
