Hey Everyone
If you're coming on mid winter, don't forget to pay the balance this week, preferably at tomorrow night's meeting at the pub. If you can't pay tomorrow night then you'll need to make arrangements with Jess. The final cost is $170, still a bargain for 7 days travel and tramping!
Also your group leader will be on hand to advise on final plans or will contact you to check gear and meeting times etc.
If you're not coming on mid winter, then keep an eye on the website or come along to meeting to find out about other happenings..
We will also have next term's calendar up later this week packed full of cool trips.
See you tomorrow night!

Hey guys,
A reminder that we're still meeting down at the pub (Welsh Dragon Bar, end of Courtney Place), 7.30pm on Tuesdays.
This weekend is AIC, our alpine instruction course up at Ruapehu to teach you basic snow skills. The trip is limited to 25 people, due to equipment, transport and accomodation constraints and is already full - there may be a place or two going if anyone pulls out, otherwise there'll be chances next semester to pick up these vital winter tramping skills! See Alyn's post here for more details on the trip.
The following weekend we set off for the week long midwinter trip for Arthurs Pass...
You should have already signed up for both these trips and have heard from Alyn regarding them - we need to finalise numbers as soon as possible, to confirm and pay for bookings for transport, etc so please confirm your attendance/lack of by tomorrow night (Tuesday) at the meeting or by email to Alyn.Higgins@hanz.org.nz.
And finally a reminder that the cost for AIC is $60, and the deposit for midwinter is $50 (total amount to be confirmed shortly - likely to be less than $150). Please pay these before you go (again, this week please for AIC, midwinter deposit).
And don't forget to come along for a beer or two tomorrow! We'll have some maps and be furiously plotting south island trips as well as drinking!
Cheers,
Kieran

Hey everyone,
With the uni term being over now we are going to be meeting down at the Welsh Dragon Bar (end of Courtney Place, betweeen Kent and Cambridge Terraces) on Tuesdays from 7.30pm for the next few weeks.
So come along for a beer or three to catch up and find out about upcoming trips. Speaking of which, Terra has postponed the Kapiti Island trip that was to run this weekend, so theres a free weekend if anyone wants to organise something! Daytrips could be good for those bogged down with study and exams...
Also a reminder to sign up and pay deposit for the midwinter Arthurs Pass trip by next Tuesday at the latest, as we need to confirm numbers for transport.
Cheers,
Kieran

Hey people,
Just a reminder about the 3 day weekend - we're celebrating the Queen's Birthday on Monday (even though its not her birthday) and the only way to do that is by tramping and climbing!
The club trip is heading up to the Kaimanawas, a rugged, expansive area of tops, rivers and bush unfortunately bisected by private land as Richie pointed out last week. Nonetheless, there is plenty of opportunity for some cool trips here - and the weathers looking up, so should get some good views of the central plateau volcanoes and maybe even a dusting of snow on the tops.
There'll be a couple of different trips at least to cater for easier/harder types, leaving Friday night and back Monday - come along to the meeting tonight at 7.30pm usual place to find out more and sign up (or email me if you can't make it).
Also Katie is teaming up with the palmy crew to do a climbing trip up at the new crag up Te Kuiti way if you're after some climbing action - let her know if you're keen.
See you tonight!

Hey guys, hope everyone had a fantastic night at Bushball! The keg and punch flowed freely, if somewhat too briefly and good times were had on the dance floor - so thanks to Amelia, Craig and all the others that helped get all the stuff organised and carried it in there! At this weeks meeting, Richie is giving a slideshow about Arthurs Pass, sweaty undies and the Kaimanawas, so if you're at all interested in coming on the mid-winter 8 day south island trip at the end of June, or the 3 day Kaimanawa Queens Birthday trip the weekend after this, then come along to check it out! It'll be awesome... This weekend Amelia G is organising a tramp to the Ruahines, and Steve a day trip, so if you're still trying to get over bushball and want some genuine tramping to clear your head then come along to sign up for these :) Also there will be a sign up sheet for the mid winter trip from this week - please express your interest as early as possible, as we need to get ferries/buses booked. Come along to find out more!
See you tomorrow, Kieran

It is here!! The most premier monumental social event of the year! BUSHBALL 2008. It is happening this weekend on Saturday night and it is going to be massive. Tell all your friends family and even your imaginary friends because they will all be devastated if they miss out!!
So no lame excuses this is an event that you can’t miss! If you miss it you will wonder what everyone is talking about for the rest of the year and you will kick yourself with an old crusty tramping boot.

See our forum for more details

Hey guys,
A reminder that the meetings are back up at uni from tonight, 7.30pm in the Student Union Building, Meeting Rooms 1 & 2. Come along to find out about all the exciting trips coming up this term and sign up for this weekends tramp in the Haurangis!
The haurangis are a little often visited range of hills in the Wairarapa out by Cape Palliser, with some rugged coastlines, light house, cool rocky pinnacles, out of the way huts and lots of bush, so plenty of room for adventures.
Also the weekend after we are doing some volunteering on Somes Island out in the middle of Wellington Harbour - I did it for a day last year and it was very cool, getting to pick up little skinks and geckos and giant weta... you need to let Terra know by tonight if your keen to come along on this (see her post here for details).
Apart from that there's bushball coming up soon, cross dressing crossings of the tararuas, Queens Birthday missions and plenty more so stick around for some awesome winter tramping antics!
See yout tonight!

Heyhey everyone,
Just a reminder that we're meeting down at the pub again (Welsh Dragon Bar) from 7.30pm on Tuesday - next week we'll be back up at uni.
Its ANZAC day on Friday which means a 3 day weekend, at least for the worker types who don't get two weeks holiday! The club trips are Rockcraft II up to Wharepapa South (and potentially other climbing places), and a 3 day Tararua tramp.
So come along to sign up and drink beer!

Hey everyone,
Just to let you know that cause its uni holidays at the moment the meeting tomorrow and next Tuesday will be down at the Welsh Bar (between Kent and Cambridge Terraces at end of Courtney Place) from 7.30pm.
This weekend we have an interclub event - Hannah, on behalf of FMC has organised a bunch of representatives from the other university tramping clubs to come down to Wellington for a discussion, party and daytrip. More details on this to follow, but its a great chance to come along, meet some fellow trampers from afar and see how things work in the other uni clubs!
Also remember to return any gear and pay money from the gourmet hot pools trip on the weekend.
Cheers,
Kieran

Hey guys,
Things are back to normal this week, so the meeting tomorrow will be back up at uni in the Student Union Buiding (Meeting Rooms 1 & 2) at 7.30pm.
This week we'll be designing T-shirts! You may have seen various incarnations of the club T-shirt from the last few years, so this is your chance to contribute to this years model! So bring along some ideas - it could include pictures, fancy designs, our logo (which we'll also show you how to draw), a catchy tramping slogan ('let huddle together for warmth' and 'my drinking club has a tramping problem' having made previous appearances) or something completely different...
We'll get them printed before the end of the first semester - they should cost about $25 and come in almost any colour you care to name!
Also this weekend Jess is organising a Tararua tramp (and it looks like the weather will be a fair bit better than for bushcraft at this stage!) and it sounds like theres quite a bit of keeness for a daytrip or two. Rock climbing at Titahi Bay, Orongorongo valley and the skyline walkway seem to be possibilities at this stage.
Come along to find out anyway!
Cheers,
Kieran

Hey hey,
The meeting rooms at uni are unavailable next Tuesday due to the Easter break, so we'll be going back to our favourite Welsh Bar at the end of Courtney Place (in between Kent and Cambridge Terraces).
This will naturally be a more informal, beer drinking style meeting, but do come along if you're at all interested in signing up to Bushcraft (see forum post) - our bush skills course (happening the following weekend 29-30 March) where you can learn how not to get lost, to cross rivers safely, bash thru bush and use our stoves without burning any huts down...
Keep an eye on the website for more updates on this. See you at the pub on Tuesday!

Hey people,
come along to the meeting tonight (7.30pm, Student Union Building, meeting rooms 1 & 2) to hear about all the plans for trips this easter!
There's the club trip to the Ruahines - 4 days exploring the rugged mountain range north of the tararuas, with lots of bush, tops, rivers and huts to check out! Also there's a number of private trips going, including rock climbing and Taranaki.
Finally there's rumours of an easter egg hunt tonight, so if nothing else tempts you come along for the chocolate!
Cheers,
Kieran

Hey guys,
hopefully you've all recovered from freshers and are keen for more adventures! Come along to the meeting tonight (Tuesday 7.30 pm, student union building) to find out about rockcraft and the party, learn how to join and use the website forums, and see a slideshow of some of our summer adventures climbing and tramping in the southern alps!
Rockcraft is a fun day trip to Baring Head for climbers and non-climbers alike to play round on the boulders, lie round in the sun, swim and eat good food! Its happening this Saturday and will be followed by the first and massive tramping club party, The location is Point Howard on the other side of the Harbour so see PARTY for details
See you tonight!
