Heyhey all, hope you had an excellent weekend having fun in the sun and have recovered from all the rum-drinking and piratical antics!!
There's still some exciting trips coming up before the end of the year- with Ollie organising a climbing trip to Wharepapa this weekend which should be pretty mean and Kieran organising a (pretty weather-dependent) trip to Taranaki for some ice climbing adventures. The following weekend I'm organising a tramping trip (has been slightly neglected with all the partying and horseriding and rafting lately) to Kapakapanui and then the weekend after that is our leadership weekend (has been postponed by a week til 13/14 October). And then it's "study" break so should be some exciting trips going away round then! So plenty of excuses for some quality procrastination!!
We've also got our AGM coming up (I'll be putting stuff up very soon about what being on the committee entails) which is an awesome chance to give something back to the club and get more involved if you're going to be around next year.
And this Tuesday we'll be in Meeting Room 3 (our last room change of the year!!) doing some crazy antics with Jess....
So see you in the hills or up the mountain or in Meeting Room 3 sometime very soon!!

Hey all, lots of exciting things going on in the Tramping Club at the mo-
This tuesday we have john coming to give us a cooking class, with lots of tips for cooking in the bush. should be excelent and hopfully delicious :) Next tuesday is the PHOTO COMPETITION so PLEASE send a couple of your best/worst/funniest/strangest photos to our dear pres and come vote on them next week.
This weekend we have a trekk planned out in the ohariu valley, which should be good amusment and get all you horse deprived people a good fix. Spaces are limited so let me know asap if you want to come (if you havent already). Also this weekend Alyn is (finaly!!) having his house-warming, which should be a great time and will probably include the opposite ratio of sugar to alcohol that we had last weekend :)
Also Upcoming are a leadership weekend for people planning on being activly leading trips in the club next year and possibly some pirate action :p
T-Shirts are still able to be ordered if you missed out last time- flip an email to annabel pronto, even if you put yourself on a list at some previous date...
Lots of plans in the early stages for upcoming tramps, so if you want to suggest, comment on, or express extreem keeness for something, come along to the next couple of meetings, SUB rooms 1&2 7:30.

Heyhey everyone, hope you're all recovering from all the holiday antics and mayhem the club's been involved in! And ready for some fantastic, fun-filled adventures in the weekends ahead!!
We've got some exciting Tuesday meetings coming up, with Michael Brown coming tomorrow night to tell us about some historic VUWTC songs which sound pretty hilarious and then John Sawyer next week who you may have seen or heard talking about gourmet tramping food which should be pretty scrumptious! The annual photo competition will be the week after, so send me in your prize snaps from the year and I'll have some exciting prizes on offer!!!
And not to forget all the exciting weekends coming up, with Bash on Thru scheduled for this weekend (watch out for Kieran's plans on what's going down there), and everything from horseriding to housewarmings to pirate raft races in the weekends ahead. There's also been a bit of a change to the calendar (which isn't actually on the calendar due to my extreme technological prowess) and the weekend of 6/7 October will be a leadership weekend with the dashing Richard Davies, aimed at building on your existing navigational skills and expanding our base of people we can use as leaders next year. Everyone who comes should get a lot out of it, but it is aimed at people with a track history with the club who "know which end of the compass is which." So keep that weekend free if you're keen!
Right I better get to class, see you all at the meeting tomorrow night! Annabel
Ooh and one other thing- drop me an email or come talk to me at the meeting if you want to be as styly as everyone else in the club who owns one of our snazzy t-shirts as the previous sign-up sheet has mysteriously disappeared. Let me know before next Friday or there will be no t-shirt for you!

Heyhey all, hope your holidays have got off to a super start (and haven't involved sitting at a computer doing assignments!!)
There's heaps of scheming going on for holiday plans, people are camped up on the Summit Plateau right now having mad adventures, others are off down south tomorrow for some climbing excitement and others off to the Ruahines from Sunday til next Wednesday doing some quality tramping!
But for all those of you still round Wellington, come hang out at B4 tomorrow night and hear about the weekend up the mountain. I'm also organising some Tararua tramping for next weekend (1-2 September) so will have a sign-up sheet for that or else drop me an email if you're keen.
Happy holidays!

Hey guys,
Over the uni holidays for the next two weeks (Tuesday 21 and 28 August) we'll be back down at B4 @ McKenzie's at 222 Willis St (opposite the massive Unicomm monstrosity) having a few beers and discussing holiday plans or gloating over our annihilation of AUTC this weekend! Unfortunately the previous drinks deal they were doing for us turned out to be illegal, but they're real keen for us to go back there and will be doing $3 beers for everyone. They're staying open for us again, so people will be there from 7pm.
So see you all there over the holidays!

Hey guys and gals, lots of stuff going on over the next few weeks, so be sure to come along to the meeting tomorrow and get the low-down on all the exciting plans! Meeting in SUB meeting rooms 1&2 this week, with a guest speaker who’s going to share a bit of tramping history and some classic tunes!
In the works are snow caving (this weekend), stuart island tramping, takaka climbing, and southern alps ascents (uni holidays). Other trips may be planned spontaneously too, so keep a weather ear on the website forums.
Also, PLEASE BRING BACK GEAR!!! With all these trips going away it is critical that we get all the club gear back in the gear-shed, especially alpine and climbing gear. Kieran will be down at the gear-shed (behind the student job search building) tomorrow before the meeting.
Cheers all, and don’t forget to write a trip report after your crazy alpine adventures, mad bush bashing, you will be rewarded!

heyhey everyone!
There's some exciting stuff going on with the tramping club in the next few weeks, so throw away those books and dust off your boots!! This weekend we're doing a Bash on Thru course- Hazel is organising it and will put some details about it up on the website soon but it's an awesome weekend of learning lots about navigation and bush skills (or just running round like crazy people). This is a change from the calendar, but we've decided to postpone hut bagging (again) because we're keen for it to be a massive event involving as many people as possible (we're really determined to get most of the Tararua huts) and also think Winter is probably not the best time for it, so it will probably be going on late September. Anyway Bash on Thru will be mean!!
And then next weekend we've got our annual snowcaving trip which should be awesome. The plan this year is to get right up onto the Summit Plateau (weather permitting) and dig the cave there and have a barbeque and a game of croquet so should be a fun, crazy weekend! This trip will be limited in numbers and you really need a bit of experience to come along (it does involve sleeping on an ice plateau above 2000m) but drop me or Craig Scott an email or have a chat to a committee person tomorrow night if you've got any questions or want to find out a bit more.
And then it's the holidays again (yay!!) and there's heaps of crazy scheming going on here involving climbing trips to Payne's Ford, climbing Ngaurahoe, tramping round Stewart Island and all kinds of fun stuff so keep an eye on the website to find out what's going on!!
The meeting this Tuesday is in Meeting Room 3, where Scotty will be sharing his European adventures with us and then next Tuesday we'll be in Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 with a dude coming along who is researching past VUWTC tramping songs which sound hilarious so it should be a fun night! Over the holidays we'll be down to the pub, but I'll post up more details about that closer to the time.
See you in the hills!

Hey guys,
just to confuse you all we'll be in Meeting Room 3 (just down the corridor from where we usually meet) this Tuesday (7 August) and then back in Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 for the last Tuesday meeting before the holidays. I'll try and remember to put signs up or something in case people forget. I think that's pretty much the end of all the confusing room changes, but keep an eye on the website anyway.
This Tuesday we've got a slideshow from Scotty about his European adventures and we'll have some hut bagging scheming for the weekend and a sign up sheet for snowcaving the following weekend going on so make sure you're there! Cheers, Annabel

Hi guys,
The calendar on the website has been updated with new dates for some activites this trimester. Please check it as the dates of some activities (such as snow caving) have changed. Apologies to anyone this has confused!
See the new calendar here!

Heyhey everyone!
Hope those tramping boots aren't getting too clean and dry cause we've got plenty of exciting stuff coming up to aid in quality assignment procrastination!! This weekend will be a daytrip to get out into some of the Wellington bush (and allow people spending tonnes of time up the mountain or being hungover to recover a bit!!) Next weekend is our hut bagging weekend, which should be mean- we'll basically try and spread out and get as many Tararua huts as we can! And then the holidays aren't that far off and much scheming is going on surrounding snowcaving, South Island adventures and crazy climbing...
To find out more, keep an eye on our recently updated calendar and drop the trip organiser for the weekend an email if you're interested or else come along to the Tuesday night meetings. This Tuesday we'll be back in Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 with Andrea and accomplices sharing some avalanche adventures.
See you in the hills!

Heyhey everyone
We've had a few issues with bookings for our meeting rooms on Tuesday nights, and as a result next week (Tuesday 24) we'll be meeting in Meeting Room 3 of the Student Union building (just down the corridor). We'll be in there a couple of other times this trimester- I'll put something up on the website each time and try to remember to actually tell people at the meeting the Tuesday before!
Cheers, Annabel

Christmas is coming and for those of you who can’t wait VUWTC is having an early Christmas. Yes indeed!! Some of you have been waiting all year for it! Others of you just have no idea what I am rambling about. But this weekend is our Mid winter Christmas tramping trip. Our Mid winter Christmas tramping trip is where we go for an easy tramp (maybe even a hard one if you are keen) into a nice hut. Once at the hut we indulge in Christmas festivities such as eating fantastic food while sipping on a fine brandy, whisky or cask wine. Rumour has it that there may even be a Santa clause. It will be fantastic fun and a good chance to get in the hills. Come along to our meeting to find out more, sign up or even find out about the other exciting things that are on.

Heyhey again!
Right have been concocting some dastardly plans for the weekend, and the general consensus is for a day trip so everyone can recover from the excitement of Midwinter!! The current plan is a mad mission up Mt Matthews (which you can see across the harbour) which could either be a solid day trip or a pretty cruisy overnight camping trip. Anyway if you're keen for some excitement, I'll have a sign up sheet at the meeting tomorrow night (back in Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 at uni) or else drop me an email tomorrow or Wednesday.

Heyhey all!
Hope you've all had a fantastic holiday playing in some of the snow lining the hills at the moment (or just swimming down river valleys in the Kahurangis singing pirate songs!!) Anyway it's that dastardly time- start of a new trimester and as such the Tuesday night meetings will be back in Meeting Rooms 1 & 2 at 7.30pm. But we will most certainly be returning to the excellently cheap beer at B4 next holidays!!!
There's tonnes of exciting trips coming up to make the most of the snow everywhere- watch this space for plans for this weekend and get those Christmas carols ready for Midwinter Christmas next weekend!!
See you all on Tuesday night! Ooh and to all those of you who ordered t-shirts, they will be ready for collection on Tuesday! So bring your money if you haven't paid!
|
-
Hey guys and gals,
For those of you not currently getting rained on in the kahurangis, don't dispair, there's still fun stuff in the works! A few of us will be hanging out tuesday night at B4 as usual (hopfully open, if not, will probably head to fidels), and there is some interest in a weekend tramp (see forums). Might also be a transformers night in the works :) So if you're keen to do something, make a post and see who happens!
Enjoy the week, -Jess
