Hey midwinter people, for those coming on the very cool week long trip to Kahurangi here's some important info! Leaving this Friday 29 June, 6pm Ferry from the Interislander Ferry Terminal. Please be at the ferry terminal by 5.30pm at the latest, there is a free shuttle bus from the railway station leaving at 5.25pm. We will catch a bus to St Arnaud Friday night and stay at the scout house there (where you can leave stuff not taking on the tramp). Then you will get dropped off at your respective road ends on saturday morning. Due out from the tramp on afternoon of the following Saturday and will stay again at St Arnaud, before catching the 1.15pm Ferry on Sunday 8th July from Picton (arrives Wellington approximately 4.15pm). You must have paid the full amount of $200 before getting on the ferry, so suggest you contact me urgently if this will not be possible. We will try to have someone with the cashbox there on Friday but would be best to do it tonight at the meeting. Club gear (axes, crampons, tents, cookers, billies, etc) will be dropped off and put on the ferry separately, and we'll sort it out in St Arnaud. The emergency contact person for the trip is: Richard Davies 04 976 6670 027 4 555 293 He will know all the details of the trip, so make sure you pass this on to your family/flatmates (so they don't all call the police if anything happens). Also could you provide me with a contact name and number that we can notify in the case of an accident or delay. For any other details about food, gear or routes contact your trip leader (see my forum post) or come along to the meeting tonight to discuss! Cheers, should be a great trip!

We have some missing gear from the weekend that we urgently need back.
Long metal ice axe, metallic red colour marked "WTMC" on pick with number. Came on the weekend but wasn't found when we sorted out the gear in Ohakune on Sunday. Pair of Crampons marked WTMC, Grivel G12s with yellow anti balling plates and zigzag pattern on back spikes. Was there when we sorted out the gear in Ohakune but seems to have gone walkabout since. Please let me or Kieran Paton know if you have these items, as we have them on loan from another club and need to return them on Wednesday. Cheers,
Craig

Hi Guys,
Here is everything else you should need to know for AIC:
Gear
Please make sure you have all this gear for the weekend. The forecast is for it to be pretty cold - we will still go up the mountain so make sure you've got lots of warm gear.
- Polyprops - top and bottom
- Drink bottle
- Bowl/cup/cutlery
- gloves
- Beenie/woollen hat/balaclava
- Jacket
- Overtrousers
- Breakfast for Sat and Sunday
- sun glasses/goggles
- warm jersey
- sleeping bag
- snow foam
- HELMET (if you have a climbing or biking helmet please bring - the club does not have enough for everyone)
- BOOTS (not shoes - crampons cannot safely be fitted to shoes. If you do not have boots try and find some, and if you cannot please email me urgently. You will not be using crampons without boots and will have VERY cold feet!)
I may have missed things so think about it yourself too!
Transport
Meet at hunter carpark at 5.30pm on Friday night. We are travelling in vans to Turangi where we will stay Friday and Saturday night. We will be back sometime on Sunday night.
Emergency Contact
Emergency contact for the Trip is Tony Ryburn - 4766592 or 0276864155. Of course we are likely to be in cell phone contact all the time so people can alway try that first.
Food
We will be staying at Turangi. There are cooking facilities at the house and takeaways and a supermarket at Turangi so for dinner and you can grab something for lunch there or bring your own from home of course. We will stop en route on Friday night to get some takeaways. You cook, you clean up!
Payment
If you have not paid please sure you bring your money on Friday night ($50).
Thanks,
Craig

Hi Guys,
I have posted an updated list of participants here for both AIC and mid winter. If you are still not on this list and want to go you really had better let me know very soon! Email me now if this is the case. Also if you an no longer come please also let me know asap.
In terms of payment if you are coming on AIC you need to pay tonight - please see Regan or Natalie at the meeting at B4 tonight. The cost is $50. If you cannot make it to the meeting tonight you need to email me to arrange payment.
Also if you are going on mid winter you need to pay your deposit of $50 tonight. Again if you cannot make it you must email me and make other arrangments.
And of course if you ordered a T shirt please pay for that tonight too - $25. I realise that this is alot of money in one go, but it is really important that you all pay tonight. If you are having difficulties please contact me.
Final details for AIC will be posted tommorow (after my exam!) including gear lists etc. If you have any urgent questions email me and ask.
See you all tonight!

Hi again guys,
Just a few more details for AIC and mid winter. Firstly here (so I don't take up the whole news page!) are the people I have signed up for mid winter and AIC. If your name is not on this list and you want to go email me now or sign up tonight! Please don't presume I know you are going - I am very forgetful!
In terms of cost unfortunately mid winter is going to be a bit more expensive this year at $200. I have tried to find cheaper options, but with the ferry and having to get transport to the road ends we cannot make it any cheaper. Hopefully this is not prohibitive to anyone - it is still an awesome trip! If you can pay a $50 deposit either tonight or next week would be great and we will need the balance by 26th June. Also remember if you are going on AIC (as most of you should be!) you need to pay the trip fee of $50. If you can do that tonight, or next week would also be much appreciated! If you pull out of mid winter before the 26th you will get $40 of your deposit back so if you are still undecided sign up and then sort out if you can come!
Dates and times for mid winter [not AIC as it used to say - I'm a munter!] are not 100% confirmed, but it is likely we will leave on the 6pm ferry from Wellington on the 29th of June and be back by mid afternoon on the 8th of June.
Cheers,
Craig

Hey all- Tonight's meeting is once again at B4 @ Mckenzies at 7. The company is good and the beer is cheep (2 for 1!). A trip for this weekend is in the works but needs some keen people and drivers, and there will be details about AIC and Midwinter. There should also be a chance to laugh at the crazy x-dressers from last weekend, tease annabel about forgetting her lunch, and plan crazy exam-period fun :)
See ya all there, -Jess

Hi Guys,
The bad news is exams are fast approaching, but the good news is so is AIC and Mid Winter! These are both wicked trips - it is always fun to get up into the snow and play around on AIC, and get some more serious (not too serious if you don't want!) tramping done over the break. So heres the deal:
AIC - Leave Friday 22nd June night 5pm at hunter carpark and head to sunny Turangi. Go to the mountain on Saturday and Sunday and learn/refresh those self arresting and cramponing skills and head back to Welly Sunday afternoon. AIC is a must if you want to go on mid winter. If you cannot make AIC but still want to go on mid winter please talk to me ASAP. The cost will be $50pp. This includes transport and accomodation but not food.
Mid Winter - 29 June - 8 July. Exact details are to be confirmed but the basic deal is we'll be headed down to Kaharangi National park in the South island and looking to do a 8 day/7 night tramp down there. There will be groups ranging from easy to fit so there should be something to fit most people (remebering that it still is a 8 day tramp!). Cost is tbc but as a guide it will be $150-$200 including ferry and transport to the road end. Food for the group will be extra.
If you are at all keen on either of these please email me and let me know. It is far easier that you sign up now and pull out than try and commit at the last minute to them - there may not be space for you. They both should be wicked trips - just look at some of the pics from last year! Any questions just email me or talk to me or anyone from last year at the meeting on Tuesday.

hey guys
Have been checking out lots of potential meeting places for Tuesday nights for over exams and holidays and think we get the best deal at B4 @ McKenzie's which is up the top of Willis street opposite Unicomm.
They're staying open especially for us and sound pretty keen to give us whatever specials we want so will do some negotiating on that front! Cause they normally close at 7, we'll meet there then (but as holiday meetings are pretty informal, just catching up on what's going on with a beer or two, don't worry if you're not there then).
We'll see how it goes and if everyone hates it, will move somewhere else!
Anyway so see you there next Tuesday!

Hey All-
Since annabel sneaked her monday morning update in just ahead of me, looks like all there is left to do is encourage mid-week mayhem!
Tuesday- another very exciting meeting washed down with fidels chocolate cake and topped off by small food-fights :)
Wednesday- climbing at fergs (poor kieran and guy have been fending off the alpine club all by themselves the last few weeks i think :(
Thursday- A night-time take-back-the-playground expedition to central park, where we may encounter exciting challenges such as fierce free-roaming children and lost followers of blanket-man :-o
Other ideas welcome, enjoy!

heyhey everyone
exams are rolling round and you know what that calls for- quality procrastination!!! And we've got heaps of exciting stuff coming up to help you perfect your procrastination techniques....
-Glenn Pennycook will be doing the meeting this Tuesday (back in our normal clubrooms). Glenn's had some pretty awesome alpine adventures, notably having climbed the Caroline face of Mt Cook so should be a pretty entertaining speaker, plus he's bringing along some of his snazzy gear for us to check out!!
-This weekend is Queen's Birthday so you can cram a whole extra day of tramping in! We'll be heading up for some adventures in the Ruahines this weekend, and sounds like Kieran's cooking up some mad missions so should be exciting times...
-Next weekend is scheduled as the cross-dressed southern crossing which should be a pretty entertaining (and glamorous) trip across the Tararuas so put that in your diary too!
-Scheming has also begun for our fabulous winter adventures down south!! We'll be heading to Kahurangi National Park for the first week of July (and last week of uni holidays) which will be an awesome trip! To go on this trip, you need to go on our annual alpine instruction course which will be taking place at Ruapehu on the 23rd and 24th of June. More details about these trips will be up on the website as they come through.
Plus there's climbing at Ferg's on Wednesdays and bouldering on Tuesdays so all in all, no excuse to be doing any form of work or study! Come along to the meeting to find out more about all these trips!
Have an excellent week!

Hey guys,
the meeting this Tuesday will be in the Hunter Lounge which is on level 2 of the Student Union Building (ie: the level above the meeting rooms). I'll put signs up so no one is wandering round lost in the depths of the Kelburn campus!
Ritchie's going to be talking to us about off-track South Island adventures so should be an interesting meeting!
See you all at Bushball!
