The latest version of the popular Powell Hut, located at the bush edge on Mt Holdsworth.
Sleeps: 40 plus.
Heating: Gas heaters.
Camping: Not near the hut, you would have to go up the ridge towards Holdsworth.

Located on Renata Ridge not far from Maymorn Junction.
Sleeps: Around eight on one platform.
Heating: Open fire.
Camping: No. Renata Peak is worth camping on though for views similar to Elder hut.

A character hut, popular with deer stalkers. On the true left of the Waiohine at Totara Flats.
Sleeps: Four on the bunks.
Heating: Open fire.
Camping: Lots.

This hut was removed from the Mangahao valley in 2001. It wasn't lamented.

Commonly accepted as the best hut in the Tararuas, Carkeek lies just inside the bush edge on Carkeek Ridge and is a difficult hut to reach by Tararua standards, a good level of fitness and navigation ability is essential. This is an older photo. This hut was removed and another one was built slightly further south by DoC and the Horowhenua Hunting club.

Arete Forks hut is located at the confluence of the Arete Stream and the Waingawa river. It is prone to flooding, and a few years ago the toilet was recovered from down the Waingawa river!
Sleeps: Six

Camping: A little bit, the once good camping upstream has been blown apart by gravel from slips in the upper ...

Atiwhakatu Hut is located at the base of the climb up Raingauge spur to Jumbo Hut. 1 - 2hrs from Holdsworth lodge
Sleeps: Eight or so on bench bunks
Heating: Open fire
Camping: Yes, plenty of scope to camp all the way along the Atiwhakatu.

Blue Range is a quirky, cosy four bunk hut on the Blue Range and is a popular friday night destination from Kiriwhakapapa.
Sleeps: Four bunks, floor space for at least four more.
Heating: A potbelly
Camping: Yes, on the grass outside.
