It looks like I've got a lift with the parentage over to Takaka - won't get there until the 31st probably! - but I'm pretty sure I'd be keen for a ride back on the 6th, can I talk to you tonight about it?

I was hoping to squeeze some tramping into the week or so that I'm there but I don't know much about what's around that area... should probably look it up, and if anyone else is keen to do some short tramps thenish that would be rad!

yoyo - me and my family who are having a four week holiday in NZ this summer will be in the Golden Bay (Puponga / Farewell Spit) from 29 Dec to 5 Jan! At least one of my brother is very keen on tramping. So we're definitely up for some of that stuff.

Re: South island summer plans - post details here!

My general plans are as follows.

I’m heading down on 21 December and will be tramping in Nelson Lakes for Christmas, coming out on 26th then hanging about/relaxing in the Marlborough Sounds for a few days before heading to Golden bay for New Years, so I'd be keen to meet up and hitch a lift with someone heading to Golden Bay from Picton on or around 29, 30 or 31st Dec etc, happy to assist with costs.  After seeing in the New Year I'm keen for tramping (any grade of trip really, there are many options) before heading further South for more tramping and climbing. Have not finalised a return date yet.

Also happy to assist with canvassing and organising possible tramping options for just after New Year in the area and to make some general plans about possible trips.

Unfortunately I can't make meetings for the next three Tuesdays owing to work party's (it’s a tough job, no really!). But in the meantime always feel free to drop me an email or maybe catch me at Nicolai's party on the weekend.

    Hello,

If i am not solely tempted by climbing, you may be able to pull me away for a few tramps...

There is the kaituna, which is a lovely 8hr day tramp or a cruisy two day tramp in the bush with a few nice views!

Then of course there is the cobb valley... I think that speaks for itself! i have actualy only been back there once (shame on my name!) so i am keen to get back there for sure!

    Hey hey,

I have a friend who would love to do Stewart island with us!

Also, what are people wanting to do here for New Years? The Mussel Inn sounded like lots of fun last year. There is also the Old Schoolhouse Bar that is walking distance from my house. I can find out what they are doing for new years if you guys are interested. There is also the hall, whuch is realy cheap to hire ($25). Just putting some ideas out there!

    Hello,

I will be heading down south on the 2nd, so you guys are welcome to stay at my place/camp on my lawn untill then, but it might be a good idea to look for alternative accomadation after that. And we might even have a toliet by then! :)

So since Terra will be heading down south on the 2nd, what are people's plans for afterwards? I'm going home on the 6th so any tramping/camping/whatever between 2 and 6 January would suit me nicely. Anyone else heading back on/around the 6th? We could get in touch and organise something.

Re: South island summer plans - post details here!

    Howdy,

Looks like my car and I'll be catching a ferry to Picton early morning of the 18th and heading through Nelson.  Hiking the coastal track (18-21) with a couple of friends who are flying in/out of Nelson.  I'll likely stay down to do some more tramping until just before new years.  Not exactly sure what yet . . . sometimes I'm lazy.  Maybe a couple more 3-5 day tramps . . . or maybe some kayaking.

     email kfeindel@gmail or txt 021 985 266 if you're keen on a ride

     Cheers,

    Kirk

Re: My Details - Summer Roadie!!

Sammy sammy sammy. Who said anything about dealers? Harvesting is where its at, and the sounds has a shitload of that stuff; grows on the side of the road over there, it'll be taken to the more suitable place for drying (Nelson) and then to a more suitable place for selling (Takaka). I hope this clears things up, as I would hate for you to think I'd be associating with dealers in any way.

Re: My Details - Summer Roadie!!

    Hello,

If anyone still feels like comming to visit me my adress is:

    32 Pakawau Bush Road

    Pakawau/Seaford

You are all welcome!! (We need to try to double the popoluation of Seaford!)

    So how to get there...

Go to Collingwood (for those that don't know how to get there: Drive through Nelson to Motueka. Drive through Mot following Highway 60 ie the main road towards Takaka. Go up over the hill. Keep going through takaka. In about half an hour you will reach Collingwood.)

Instead of turning into Collingwood, turn left towards Farwell Spit, then take the imediate first right over a bridge (follow the hourse trekking signs).

Follow this road through the village of pakawau. take the first road to the left after leaving the township, which will be about 1km. This is Pakawau Bush Road. It is imediatly before a hall and after a bridge and has signs pointing to Whanaganui/Westhaven inlet.

We are the fist house you will see from the road on your right. It has a white picket fence on the outside and a gradge. Mia should bark her head off at you, but she is totaly harmless and well trained, so just tell her to shut up!

In other words, once you leave Picton, just set your compasses NW and keep going untill the world can't get any prettier. :)

Mom would aprciate a $10 a day donation towards food (so she can make you all lots of yummy treats!! We have even already made a menu :)

And also, if you are comming please give me a confirming text (027 643 3899) so she knows how much food to stock up on (there isn't a good grocerie store nearby and I am stealing the car soon too... )

She also said it is fine for you guys to stay as long as you like, so no porblemo staying after the 2nd! :)

have a great day and hope to see you all soon!!

Re: South island summer plans - post details here!

    Hola amigos,

Kieran (not President Kieran but other Kieran) is kindly oranising for us to use the VUW geography house on New Years Eve. I have been informed that the house is pretty much next door to the Mussel Inn. This is so that this year the problem of transporting drunken people back to the campsite at Hang Dog will not arise and they can instead find their own way back to the geography house (or possibly sleep in bushes on the roadside instead) and we don't have to worry about who will be sober drivers etc.

Could I please have some idea as to who is keen for this? We may be able to get it longer than for one night too - we just need some idea of how long and how many people are keen. Apparently there is room for lots of people so that is all good. My e-mail is amelia.opie@gmail.com to save blocking up the forum.

    Thank you!

    Amelia

Re: South island summer plans - post details here!

That sounds like a really good idea,  If we could have a single base for everyone between 27th / 28th and the 2nd that would be ideal and would make for fun times.  Obviously this is all on the provision that the place is realitivly cheep (or even better free :) ).  But from there people can easily access all the sights and sounds of golden bay

Would you be able to look into it Amelia?

    Anyone else with any thoughts?

    Hello,

I just saw the photos of you guys tubing (and lounging in Kieran's case!) and it reminded me that there is the Colligwood raft race on the 29th is anyone is keen for some crazy watery fun!
