'YTYY' is the only hut on the lovely Otaki River (if you exclude Parawai lodge). 4hrs from Otaki Fx. Located near the base of the track up to Shoulder Knob on the Main Range.
Sleeps: 16 or so on bench bunks.
Heating: Potbelly.
Camping: Campsites can be found in the bush, and there is excellent camping further up the Otaki.

Not marked on any maps but the name gives all the clue you need. Not one to visit with rain in the forecast....
Sleeps: Four.
Heating: I haven't been there for 6 years and thought it was an open fire but it looks like a chimney of a burner in the photo.
Camping: Yes on the river bank.

This hut was replaced in 2006. On a good day there are wonderful views of the Otaki and Waiohine catchments, while on a usual day this hut can feel a long way away from civilization. A place that has seen its fair share of epics.
