Four people signed up, so there is one seat left in the car.
Start: Saturday early morning 6ish,7ish , picked up from home, if on the way.
Route: It is a medium fit trip, so we will go on Saturday from Holdsworth Lodge to
Maungahuka Hut via Holdsworth, Mid Waiohine, Aokaparangi...... and
on Sunday back via Totara Flats Hut. We can decide ...

Hey hey,
Weekend after this (23-24 February) I'm rather keen to go tubing down the Waiohine River in the Tararuas, from Mid Waiohine to Totara Flats. I haven't done it, but by all accounts its a rugged little bit of river with quite a few drops, rapids and long deep gorges so probably not for the inexperienced!

Winter 06 saw the rare convergence of bomber snowfall, fine weather and a weekend.

Crampons would have been nice as we grovelled down to Powell Hut on hard ice and in strong wind in winter 06.

Ben Clark heads off along the ridge between Isobelle and Holdsworth. The snow was surprisingly crisp by Tararua standards and steps had to be hacked into the ice in a few places.

The latest version of the popular Powell Hut, located at the bush edge on Mt Holdsworth.
Sleeps: 40 plus.
Heating: Gas heaters.
Camping: Not near the hut, you would have to go up the ridge towards Holdsworth.

Booking is required for this roadend facility. It is located beyond the carpark at Mt Holdsworth.
Sleeps: A million??
Heating: Potbelly.
Camping: Almost unlimited.
