  • Re: Golden Bay/Nelson tramping

Yup, Tablelands very easy walking, nice though.  Balloon hut is nice.  Sailsbury Lodge is, well, err, large.  Rock shelters are neat.  It's a nice walk over Gordons Pyramid too, well it was in a blizzard, so I'm sure summer blue skies won't detract from it too much.

  • Golden Bay/Nelson tramping

I'm planning on being down in the Golden Bay/Nelson area around New Years and was looking for some suggestions of good 2 or 3 day tramps to do in the area. Anyone got any suggestions? Thinking about Mt Arthur/Tablelands - anyone done this track and know what it's like? Cheers, James

  • Re: Carkeek Tramp on Labour Weekend

Just a reminder to let Hazel know by email if you are interested in coming tramping into a lesser traveled part of the Tararuas this long Labour holiday weekend to Carkeek Hut, one of two Tararua huts that the Club is guardian and a hut with much Club history, making Carkeek a truly special place. The plan is to head into Holdsworth road end on ...

Sorry if that doesn't match you Michael :) Oh yeah and Annabel - in the calendar it says there a Tararua trip on the last weekend of the holidays, is that still on so we have to make ...

  • Bog-standard tramp anyone?

Heya! Just wondering if anyone else would be keen to spend a couple of days tramping in the holidays, no compulsory gender-bending, no ingestion of potentially toxic flora, hopefully no frostbite, just fun in the bush? I'd be keen for anywhere really but can't afford anything tooo fancy, weekends are mint or weekdays too no probs! More than one ...

  • The nine passes trip

Feb 07 Calling in at tramping mission control in Kumara, Quentin mentioned that he was doing a trip with Andrew McCrorie an ex HVTC member now living in the UK and asked if Hannah and I wanted to come.  Their plan was to cross from the Styx to the Waimakariri so Andrew could get the bus back to Christchurch and fly home.  A three passes ...

  • Pureora Traverse

The King Country is renowned for many things.  Colin Meads, Jim Bolger, Colin Meads, umm, ....., well, uh, Coli.....  OK it's not renowned for many things and one of the many things it is not renowned for is tramping.  It is however close to Hamilton, so at Queens Birthday Alistair and Eric made the trip south and Graham and I ...
