• Summit Plateau camping this weekend anyone?

Hey all, so I know there's been a few trips to Tongariro region lately but this one will be different - a) because it is looking like beautiful weather this weekend, and b) because there will actually be decent amounts of snow! So, I was thinking it was about time to go camping on the summit plateau of Ruapehu again - a nice wee spot if you ...

  • Back in the day...

Wandering along Tararua ridgelines in the middle of the night? Cookers not working? Sound familiar? This was VUWTC (or VUCTC as it was then, the Victoria University College Tramping Club) back in 1932... By Moonlight over the Pinnacles. One thing's changed though, we no longer cut our tent poles at the bushline! With our 90th jubilee ...

  • Re: Otaki River Tubing trip

It is looking like Friday night/Saturday, which gives you a whole other day to do something on your weekend! The cost will be something like $10 or $15 to cover fuel to get there. Let me know if you are keen!

  • Otaki River Tubing trip

Hey everyone, The calendar has a tubing trip down for this weekend, on the Otaki river. My plan if the weather is good is to do the whole stretch from Waitewaewae down to the forks - this involves a 4-5 hour walk in, overnight at the hut and a longish float out (8-10 hours?), so wetsuit definitely required! Its a pretty unique opportunity to ...

  • Re: Rock climbing around Mt. Cook

Definitely - there's some awesome easy to medium stuff there. Red Arete is the classic climb in the area, 3 pitches (can be done in less) of bolted grade 15ish - you could always lead them and have your brother follow up. Its nice and friendly and just a neat location, have been up there a few times. Its obvious from the road when ...
