• Re: Scandalous idea!

You could go check out the recently refurbished Dorset Ridge Hut - looks like a nice place to be holed up in in the rain! If its too wet for tubing I might be keen...

  • Re: Crazy tubing adventure + some tramping too

Sounds great! Unfortunately it looks like there might be the butt end of a tropical storm coming along on Friday which could make it a wee bit too exciting... will keep people informed anyway (haven't had a confirmed sign up yet) and could always try the weekend after if it all turns to poo. Will be keen for a tramp anyway!

  • Crazy tubing adventure + some tramping too

Hey hey, Weekend after this (23-24 February) I'm rather keen to go tubing down the Waiohine River in the Tararuas, from Mid Waiohine to Totara Flats. I haven't done it, but by all accounts its a rugged little bit of river with quite a few drops, rapids and long deep gorges so probably not for the inexperienced! So to come on this trip you ...

Let me know though so we can make sure theres enough ...

  • Re: Waiotauru vs Renata hut?

Hey Joe, The road from Akatarawa Saddle in should be pretty manageable on a bike, its steady but not really steep any place - and Renata hut, though basic is a much nicer place to stay than Waiotauru (which is just an old bulldozer shed). I've been to both, though not done the track in between - it must be pretty good though, as last time I was ...

You can email photos to me at patonomatic@gmail.com - if they're already on the web somewhere just email me a link to save my inbox space... As sarah says, want to get a range of photos typical of what we do - including the people, activities, scenery, and so on. If you just send one or two each (or reccommend from the website ...
