Climbing Taranaki aka Mounting the Mount

There is a trip heading up to Taranaki to do the around the mountain circuit next weekend.

Can I convince a keen soul to join me on a trip to the summit? Experience with crampons and ice axes essential.

The plan would be to drive to North Egmont Friday night and then camp in the shelter there and then head up to the summit early on Saturday have a play in the crater and then head over to Syme Hut for Saturday night and then down to Dawson Falls and along the plateau track back to North Egmont visitor centre on Sunday and then drive back to Wgtn on Sunday night.

To come on this trip you will need to be confident using crampons and an ice axe as some parts near the summit get quite steep.

Also at the moment Saturday looks ok but the long range forecast for Sunday isn't one that inspires a desire to be above the bushline on Sunday, including getting down from the top. If that is the case then there may need to be an alternative.

Come to the meeting tonight to find out more.
