    mid-winter

    Hi all,

Each year the club runs a trip over the University mid year holidays called mid-winter. It's a great time for the club to head south and get away for an extended trip over a week. Giving the distance and duration of the trip it is more expensive than any of our other trips, but it really is fantastic value for money. Trip runs 5th - 12th July.

Alyn is organising the trip so if you have questions then get in touch with him.

If you want to sign up for mid-winter then get come along to the meetings (Tuesday 7:30pm, Welsh Dragon Pub, Courtney Place) or flick me an email with the usual details (Name, Phone, Email, Fitness, Vege)

We ask that you pay for this trip promptly as we need to book transport and we will not consider you as confirmed for the trip until you have paid.

    Re: mid-winter & AIC

In addition, to come on this trip you will need to have completed a basic alpine instruction course such as the club course happening on the weekend of 26-28 June.

The travel arrangements for this course also need to be finalised shortly and spaces are limited.

The trip will leave Wellington on Friday evening and will return on Sunday night. We will be camping at Whakapapa on Friday night and then stay at one of the lodges on the mountain Saturday night. The lodge is fully equipped with mattresses and cooking facilities but we need to know numbers at least a week prior.

Those going on the mid winter trip will also have priority to ensure that they are competent with the necessary skill level for tramping in alpine conditions.

Skills taught include walking on snow and use of ice axe and crampons as well as self arresting and concentrating on achieving these basic skills to a confident level.

Crampons and ice axes are supplied by the club but you will need all other tramping gear and food.  Food groups will apply for Saturday night.  Your leader/instructor will contact you about this, final meeting details and the cost of the trip.  The cost is expected to be $45-50 pp.

So if you want to come on AIC then you need to ensure that you sign up for the trip by contacting me or signing up at a club meeting at the Welsh Dragon bar over the next week or two.

    Re: mid-winter & AIC

Mid-winter this year is likely to cost $140 - $180. This trip is also great value and the club is strongly considering subsidising part of the cost of this trip.
