    Pirate Raft race

ok! there has been much deliberation about what to do with this pirate raft race so here is what is happening!

There have been two places that have been proposed for the pirate raft down a river.

place 1: the Mighty Hutt river from just past upper hutt to just below upper hutt. (just over an hours raft)

place 2: the waikanae river from some bridge to the beach (no idea on duration of the mission)

the hutt river is more exciting and slightly faster flowing so that would be good in terms of an adventure and the waikanae river is slower and more leisurely allowing better drinking.

depending on who is keen and what transport is available a decision will be made on the destination at some stage between now and departure.

Meet at the Hunter carpark at 12.30 on saturday ready to roll out!

    Re: Pirate Raft race

in terms of rafts there are several cheap options available from the warehouse i got one for about $25...

otherwise if you are feeling adventurous then perhaps it would be possible to construct one out of truck inner tubes most tyre shops should have these available. we should have access to ropes and long sticks for the frame construction

    Re: Pirate Raft race

    Hi Simon,

As I can't climb Taranaki :( I am keen to go rafting!!! :)

I like the sound of the Hut River option - fast and fun sound fantastic!

Do you know what the plans are for afterwards? ie do we need to bring tents to be shipped to the end or anything??

    Thanks!

    Terra

    Re: Pirate Raft race

i'm leaning towards the hutt river also so we'll see what everyone else thinks.

in terms of after, the options are all heading up the coast to annabels holiday house and partying there and staying there, in which case i think an AIC style sleeping arangment would be ok.

the other plan is to head to someones flat in town and party there, but so far there has been no flat that has volunteered. hint hint to everyone...

    Re: Pirate Raft race

There has been even more discussion about this mighty swashbuckling adventure. To make this an event rather than 'just a party' we are headign up to waikanae to float down the river there. The powers that be ahve recomended a nice early start on saturday of 10am meeting in the hunter carpark. this will allow plenty of time for the gathering of supplys and heading up north. further to this the weather is better in the morning.

Then! we get to annabels house in waikanae which is at 26 Hona St where we will park up then start organising rafts (whilst drinking of course) head to the river and hoon down (whilst drinking) and get to the beach where the party will continue into the eve' and we will be merry.

    SO!

    10am sat!

    togs/wetsuit

    sleeping gear

    beer/food

    pirate costume!

Re: Pirate Raft race + Waikanae = FUN

Ridiculous levels of excitement about Waikanae… I tell ya

The questions you all need to ask yourselves are:

    Why can I?

    Why can’t I?

That’s right there should be no excuses for not going to Waikanae this weekend.

Don’t feel like much of a pirate?  Well come up and laze about, Waikanae has everything that one could need, come along a little and just marvel at the joy and splendour that is Waikanae.

Can’t make it early?  Well come up later grab a ride with some one or catch a train.  Don’t miss out because you boss says that you need to be at work or you have some other lame excuse.

It is time to act now. WAIKANAE NEEDS YOU!!!  Don’t ask.  What can Waikanae do for me? Ask what you can do for Waikanae?

Drinking, behaving and talking like a pirate and having a jolly good time.

Re: Pirate Raft race + Waikanae = FUN

I will be driving up sometime in the afternoon, to catch up at leats with the rum-drinking. Can't come earlier cause i have to train my skills in skippering the Black Pearl through the dangerous waters of Wellington Harbour on that sunny day.

If anybody needs a ride from Wellington to the pirate's nest in the afternoon (about 2-3 o'clock) just conatct me.

And if somebody else can give me a hint where and how to catch up with the drunken rafting crews by then, that would be great.
