    Scuba Diving PADI anyone?

    Hey people,

I am thinking of doing a Scuba Diving course (PADI Open Water) in February before I go overseas in March, so I can go diving in cool places like Thailand! So just wondering if anyone else out there is keen to learn?

I heard a rumour that a Steve and a Natalie might be interested, but anyone else? If we guarantee 5-6 people we could probably get a deal on the price and it would be fun doing it with people you know! I imagine the cost will be around the $400-450 mark and it would be over 4 days (at least one weekend, maybe some nights).

I will ask around a couple of places, but anyone got any recommendations of places to go/not go with for a PADI in Wellington?

    Cheers,

I haven't had much to do with any of the dive shops in Wellington but the place out Kilbirnie way that Sophie and Annabel did their course seemed pretty reasonable in terms of price and instruction.

I'm really keen to get out for a few dives when I get back to Wellington in February so I'll be more than happy to drag people out for a dive and keep you diving. I've been diving for 4 or 5 years and PADI Advanced certified for 2 years now. You won't regret learning to dive!!!

    Scuba Diving PADI anyone?

    Hey there

I recommend 'Splash Gordon'.  I dont know the cost but they'll do a good deal.  The pool dives are held at Freyberg Pool and the theory at the shop.  They have a good crew and every weekend there's a shore dive, $35 full gear hire or $10 for tank hire.  It's 432 The Esplande, Island Bay so you can fully gear up at the shop and immediately walk into the ocean for a shore dive, if the weathers right.  Otherwise they'll ferry you somewhere else.

I have heard mixed reviews about Dive HQ in Kilbirnie, but you're welcome to try it out.

Splash also do 'free diving' (snokel & fins) course which I would be keen on.  I'll be going for a shore dive this Saturday! Yo Shawn

I did the course it at Mana just by the pahatanui inlet bridge.

Prob woudnt go there as the immediate surrounding areas (tetahi bay and harbour enterance) didnt seem that interesting to dive in- no fish.

    Re: Scuba Diving PADI anyone?

    Hey guys,

I heard back from Splash Gordon and they say that if we can get 6 people they will do the course for $354 pp with all gear hire included except gloves (they sell them for $59 but I got some a while ago much cheaper from a place in christchurch). This sounds like a great deal, but we'd need 2-3 more people so please ask around and let me know if theres anyone else out there wanting to learn scuba diving!

Looking at doing it mid-late February, hypothetically weekend of 21-22 and evenings the week or two before but nothing confirmed yet.

Let me know if you're interested!

Just an update on this - finding a time that suited everyone who expressed interest proved impossible. I'm now going to do a scheduled course with NZ Sea Adventures in Mana on the weekends of 21-22 Feb and 28 Feb - 1 Mar.

Let me know if you're keen as there are some places left. The cost is $450 including scuba gear or $320 if you can get your own.
