Late January, early Feb. Stewart Island trip (proposed)

Hi all, (posted before in wrong place, oops)

Cannot claim much experience but have always wanted to go to Stewart Island and the loop outlined here (http://www.backpack-newzealand.com/articles/topic97.php) looks to be a good trip. Im not certain how this will be organised (transport etc.) but will be doing it per my own undertaking regardless. May change if people seem interested. So would anyone be possibly keen (at this stage) to try it around then?

    John.

    Hey John,

I'm probably keen - have been trying to get down there again for ages but haved failed for various reasons. It is definately an awesome place and there is potential for an awesome trip in the south of the island too if you want to avoid the people - its a bit of a harder trip but very doable. Not exactly sure what my situation with work will be, but if I can wrangle work I'll be in.

    hey guys,

Yeah I'd be super keen too, been meaning to get down there for awhile, no idea where I'll be there or what I'll be doing but would be keen to tag along if possible (and if I'm not too broke!)

Hopefully I'll get a month or so off work round january/february to cruise round the south island - so would be very keen to check out stewart island, maybe off the beaten (and muddy) track a bit! The tin range is supposed to be quite good if maybe somewhat rugged tramping. Also would be keen for other stuff in the south of the south island (Aspiring, Cook, Fiordland areas - tramping, climbing, lying on beaches...)

yeah, would be cool to have a semi club trip to Mt Sealy (in the mt cook national park)
its no harder than girdlestone i think, and in a awsome location! perhaps even play round on a glacier or two...

Ditto here I'm dead set keen on some Stewart Island action, and can't wait to take on it's infamous mud. Maybe even a side trip to the Catlins as well would be well worth the journey.

Yeah cheap flights but from there to Bluff is a pain, Intercity bus costs $30(cheapest, early booking)-$70 to invercargill and takes from 8am through to 5.30pm (a whole day). Cost of flying to stewart Island to invercargill return $165. Ideally a van or something would suit best - I may be able to arrange a cheaper car ferry pass.

According to grab a seat there are going to be welly - invercargil flights going on this avo. Maybe we should keep an eye on it and if the times work we can get together and do it?

Yes, they go very quickly and you have to know how many tickets you want before you confirm the dates. I dont think we will get enough confirmed full names to organise anything good before they sell out - usually within 10min of being posted for sale. Just from buying $4 tickets to taupo and christchurch this morning, I think they will be posted for sale at 12.45 - so check then.
