  • Wakelings hut

    Wakelings is in the middle reaches of the Waikamaka.  A good track will get you up on the Mokai Patea range. Sleeps: Six or eight on one platform Heating: Corker cooker Camping: Yes, good camping on river flats below hut and a superb camping flat about half an hour downstream

  • Crow hut

    A classic six-bunker on a terrace high above the Kawhatau river.  Steep climbs onto either the Mokai-Patea or Hikurangi range leave from here.  You will often see large trout in the pools below the swing bridge. Sleeps: Six Heating: Corker cooker Camping: Yes, plenty around the hut

  • Top Maropea hut

    Not far from Sunrise hut via Armstrong saddle, Top Maropea provides a more authentic tramping experience if the crowds get to you at Sunrise. Sleeps: Four Heating: Open fire Camping: Yes a little bit

  • Mid Pohangina hut

  • Sentry Box hut

  • Aranga hut (private)

    Aranga is private but you are welcome to stay.  Not that you'd want to.  Its usually filled with rubbish and is something of an eyesore.  Its sits on the ridge that joins Parks Peak to the main range at the head of the Makaroro.   • Rangiwahia hut

    Rangiwahia is the most popular hut on the western side of the range.  Slips on the track have caused problems, but when the diversions are in place it is an easy walk to some brilliant rolling tops on the Whanahuia range. Sleeps: 16 or so Heating: Gas on tap Camping: No - though in fine weather you could camp on top of the Whanahuia range

  • Hinerua hut

    Hinerua hut is one of the cosy little four bunkers that the Ruahines does so well.  The long Hinerua ridge will get you up on the most interesting bit of the Ruahine tops around Paemutu and Broken Ridge. Sleeps: Four Heating: Corker cooker Camping: Very little

  • Smiths Creek hut

    Smiths Creek is a little visited Ruahine hut.  It lies in the shadow of the main range, and is part of a great bad weather trip from the Waipawa to Hinerua via Middle Stream and Smiths creek.  It can be hard to find!   • Ngamoko hut

    A superb hut in the Pohangina valley (north).  The trip up river to Leon Kinvig is a great summer trip. Sleeps: Six Heating: Open fire Camping: yes, plenty around the hut
