Sorry, forgot to add - we will be catching the ferry at 9am from Kapiti Boating Club, Paraparaumu Beach, and returning 3.30pm to Paraparaumu.

I have been trying to wrangle deals out of the ferry companies, but to no avail - looks like the price for the day will be $66. That is $11 for the DOC permit and $55 for the ferry.
