Old Arete Biv was in a stunning location on a bench below Mt Arete and looks into the headwaters of the Waingawa river.  The spring of Arete stream issues forth in a flourish of green among the dun tussocks and is the water supply.

It was removed in 2007

The biv has weathered badly since this photo was taken.  In 2005 one bunk had collapsed and the floor was rotting.

This biv has now been replaced.  I'll get a new photo up and some stage... of course I'll have to go and check it out first!

Biv was flown out and eventually purchased by

by Paul Hawker (author of book "Soul Quest").He has relocated the biv on his property at Lees-Pakaraka Road , Masterton so that it looks out over the valley to Mitre Peak and the Tararua Range.
