    Cycling Trip 12-13 Apr

    Hey Team

Katya and I will be doing an introductory/medium cycle tour the weekend of 12-13 April, leaving Saturday morning and returning late Sunday.

If u don’t have a bike, see note at the end ;)  Please also note, we are not the fastest riders, we average 15km/hr on the flat and like our breaks :)

It is all weather dependent.  So we got a few options:

    Option 1:

If weather is great in Wanganui, then we’ll be off to do the Whanganui River Road.  We should cover approx 50km on Saturday and return the same way.  This road follows the river the whole time and it’s listed as one of the best to do in the North Island as it goes into the Whaganui National Park.  Gradient should be ok, but prob not the best for a complete beginner.

    Option2

If the weather is crap in Wanganui, but good in Wellington, then we’ll have a very easy cycle from Wgtn to Eastbourne and then follow the coast all the way to the lighthouse at the entrance of the harbour.  We will then, return a bit to a campsite we found last time we had a go at this ride.  Its approx 45km, but this one is on the flat, as it follows the coast all the way.

    Option 3

If the weather is crap in Wanganui and Wellington, we’ll train/drive to Masterton and cycle to Castle Point or Riversdale, for an overnight camp next to the sea – maybe try some fishing.  This is a 65km ride, so some sort of fitness will be required.  From what we researched, should be easy though.

If the weather is crap everywhere, we’ll be staying home watching a movie or rallying some ppl for a monopoly day :)

    Gear

Just in case, we got two spare bikes we could lend to anyone missing wheels. Only problem is they don’t have a rack, so can’t use panniers.  Must use a backpack (unless u wanna buy some racks $20 approx.) – we could carry the bulky stuff ;)  Also, they got knobs, as opposed to slick tires.  You will need a helmet as a must.

I’m unsure if the club has any gear we could borrow :(

Anyone interested, let me know ASAP, so we can organise gear and so on ;)

    Enjoy

    Freddy
