Hey all, there is another tubing trip planned for this weekend and the weather is looking great so far! Also options for an easy overnight tramp.

This one will be a bit keener than the Hutt gorge daytrip we did in December, and will actually require some walking and an overnight stop in a hut, - so proper dry bags ideal to keep your kit dry. Also you should have some prior tubing or similar river experience (rafting, kayaking etc) before coming on this trip. You should also have (or be happy to hire) a wetsuit.

My plan is to tube the section of the Waiohine between Mid Waiohine hut and Totara Flats, a rugged bit of gorgy river otherwise pretty inaccessible to trampers. We would probably leave Saturday afternoon and tramp into the Mid Waiohine hut Saturday night after dinner. Then float down the river to Totara Flats on Sunday and either walk back out to Holdsworth carpark from there or if we can arrange transport continue tubing out down to Waiohine Gorge.

If anyone wants to do a daytrip or easy overnight in the holdsworth/Waiohine area then that could help us out with transport for the latter plan.
