    Glenn Pennycook's Climbing Course

    Hi Everyone,

Glenn Pennycook is running a technical climbing course on Mt Ruapehu on 20-21 June, with a backup of 27-28 June if the weather is bad.  Who is interested in going to this course?  If anyone has a car and is able to drive there, that would be awesome too.

The cost is getting there and accomodation, but Glenn does not charge for the course itself.  Anyone who goes needs to be able to handle themseves in alpine conditions with equipment such as crampons (Being able to self arrest if you fall over, etc).  The link below gives an explanation.

    Thanks,

    Mikey

I try to get my van insured till then so we could use it (fits 5 persons I'd say).

    Hey,

I will probably be going, depends on my health...

Who is all planning on going? I will just need to sort out gear for people (Glenn will give you a list of what you need to bring and the club can supply all the technical gear).

    Re: Glenn Pennycook's Climbing Course

    Hi!

I am very eager to go and try to make it happen.

Unfortunately I have to make it a more or less spontaneous decision at the middle of the week, depending on my health and the (not wanting to decrease) workload.

    Any ideas about accomodation? Tent?

    Cheers

    Nils

ps: Terra, if I'm going I would very much like to get back to your offer with some of the equipment

    Re: Glenn Pennycook's Climbing Course

Excellent :)  I hope you feel better soon and the work load decreases!

the last 2 years we tented out next to the NZAC hut saturday night (ie the one that we where planning on camping next to but ended up going back down to the shelter at the car park). You can borrow the club tents.

If you want to pay to stay in the NZAC hut that is also fine, you can book it online or over the phone I think. Search it on google or something... Other people on Glenns course normaly stay there.

    Re: Glenn Pennycook's Climbing Course

the NZAC hut is probably booked out for the coming weekend (see forum on glenn's website), so tent would be good. The technical gear each of us would need is:

helmet, hammer, axe, rope, 2 snowstakes with slings and cables attached, a few quickdraws, a few ocking carabiners, belay device, harness, 2 or 3 slings, any ice screws, pitons, wires (nuts) we have

    does that work?

how many people want to go? it would be nice to get the van full:)

    Re: Glenn Pennycook's Climbing Course

Uuuuuuhhhh the insurance for my car turns out to be very complicated. If I'm lucky I can get it done till Friday, but not sure yet. It's all difficult when you don't have a NZ drivers licence! I know it's not compulsery in NZ to have an insurance, but I'd like to have it anyway. If that doesn't work, who else has a car? Sorry for that.

Terra, we migth need cookers as well?

    Re: Glenn Pennycook's Climbing Course

    Hey,

Oh thats annoying! Katie and Kate both have cars I think... and then there is that other guy who is going, so we should be sweet. So talk to kate and Katie - see your email, Kate replied to me about the trip.

     Club will supply cookers.

     Terra :)
