I've got 1-2 spaces in my car leaving to taranaki Friday (Tomorrow) night 7pm (due to friends pulling out) for a super primo cool tramping and socialising trip.
Anyone keen at such short notice???
We will be going up to Syme Hut (1966m) -3hr walk uphill, to stay a night (on fantham peak next to the Taranaki peak), and if weather looks good, climb up taranaki from the south side....this might be a bit of a scramble, icey, but there shouldn't be too much snow on the top so you can get away with no having ice axe and crampons...we will just see how it goes. Then we will spend some time at a Friends house in New Plymouth....do some other strange stuff like cruising the coastal highway, (checking out the plant pest- chilean rhubarb on the Southern Taranaki cliffs....for my work). We can add in what ever adventures people want...Back on Monday evening. You will need warm clothes and sleeping bag unless you are a masochist because the hut has no stove and will be cold.
