• Northern Tararuas this weekend

Want to go to my first snow this year! (As usual) Metservice is pretty undecided about this weekend - so it is not clear what we can do over the bush line/snow line - so here is my dream: Take a car to Pak&Save on Friday (June 15th) and start walking from The Pines/Masterton at 8PM. - We should make it to Mitre Flats Hut before ...

One group (Pia's) will be starting from the Wairarapa side on FRIDAY evening (5:30 PM). They will stay in Wharepapa Hut. That will give Medium Easy people a head start of two hours on Saturday. The other group (Achim's) will start from Wellington train station on Saturday Morning 8:05 AM (this is when the train leaves...). We will go to ...

  • Papatahi Crossing this Saturday (26/5/2012)

The Rimutaka Range are to the east of Wellington, the moutains are pretty visible even on average days. On sunny days they are a beautyThis Saturday we cross the range via Papatahi (902 m, the second highest). That track is maintained by DOC. • Re: More Tararua Tramping!

As we are a (approximately) medium group by now, I changed our destination hut to Alpha hut.http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/backcountry-huts-by-region/wairarapa/wairarapa/alpha-hut/ This is a standard hut, so only one ticket is required. Please buy the hut tickets at DOC office or outdoor shops (if you don't have a ...

  • Re: Northern Tararuas Trips 13th to 15th April

We will start Saturday morning at 8AM and come back on Sunday afternoon or evening.By now two groups are going: a ''easy+'' group and a ''medium'' group. We stay in huts - (most likely) standard huts, so have a hut ticket (5 NZD) per person handy (or your hut pass). The fuel costs will be about 25 NZD. There might be a third group. If you are ...

  • Re: Abel-Tasman Tramping

Right now we are five, taking the Bluebridge ferry to Picton at 2:30AM on Sunday, so we have all the time to hitch hike to Marahau at that day. On the way we sort out the food in Nelson/Richmond or Motueka. As it is tramping club tradition, we tend to buy our breakfast/lunch stuff individually and cook group dinners individually: These are three ...
