There is one in the bush if you descend into the Otaki from the north end of Crawford. Also, the rotor blades at Carkeek (not sure if the 12 includes helos).
Andersons hut was the first built from airdropped material. Oliver Anderson died in Fiordland though.

No need for crampons. It'd be a nice walk.
Regarding how much snow, all that would depend on the weather the week before. Could have a week of heavy rain and have no snow or a massive dump and waist deep unconsolidated *** the whole way.

For those who missed my talk on Tuesday, here is some more information about the major conference we are hosting in Wellington in June.
