    New Totara Flats is situated at the confluence of the Waiohine and Totara Creek on the true right bank (of the Waiohine).&nbsp; It collects a lot of sun. Sleeps: Around 40 in two bunkrooms. Heating: Woodburner (but has gas cooking). Camping: Unlimited once you walk more than 10mins from the hut.

  • Field Hut

    The oldest surviving hut in the range, Field is at the Otaki end of the Southern Crossing.&nbsp; Sleeps: At least 16-20 on split levels. Heating: There is a potbelly. Camping: Not great, but you could find an uncomfortable spot near the hut.

    New Burn Hut sits in a clearing blasted from the leatherwood on a ridge between the Taramea stream and another unnamed tributary of the Mangahao.&nbsp; It is double glazed, has an inside cloak/pack room and a bit of room to move.
