New Totara Flats is situated at the confluence of the Waiohine and Totara Creek on the true right bank (of the Waiohine).  It collects a lot of sun. Sleeps: Around 40 in two bunkrooms. Heating: Woodburner (but has gas cooking). Camping: Unlimited once you walk more than 10mins from the hut.

The oldest surviving hut in the range, Field is at the Otaki end of the Southern Crossing.  Sleeps: At least 16-20 on split levels. Heating: There is a potbelly. Camping: Not great, but you could find an uncomfortable spot near the hut.

Commanding views over the northern Wairarapa hill country are a feature at Cattle Ridge. Sleeps: Five - yes one bunk is missing. Heating: The potbelly has been removed, so its rather cold in winter. Situated at the bush egde on the main range just below Junction Knob. New bunks and a small covered deck were added in 2004.

New Burn Hut sits in a clearing blasted from the leatherwood on a ridge between the Taramea stream and another unnamed tributary of the Mangahao.  It is double glazed, has an inside cloak/pack room and a bit of room to move.
