  • Penn Creek (old paint job)

    VUWTC are the nominal caretakers of this hut.&nbsp; Located in the rugged little Penn catchment between the Pakihore Ridge and Table Top (on the Southern Crossing).&nbsp; The hut has since been repainted.

  • Oriwa Ridge Biv

    It was located in a clearing on the trackless Oriwa Ridge, and this biv did not get much use.&nbsp; It is now gone. Sleeps: Three at a squeeze. Heating: No Camping: There is a very nice campsite under trees about 20m from the biv to the east, you could get 3 tents in there probably.&nbsp; You can presumably camp on the spot where the biv once ...

  • North Ohau Biv (old)

    This derelict structure was replaced in 2006 with a new small hut.

  • Mountain House

    This hut was removed in 2002 and replaced with a shelter.

  • Maungahuka Hut (old)

    This hut was replaced in 2006.&nbsp; On a good day there are wonderful views of the Otaki and Waiohine catchments, while on a usual day this hut can feel a long way away from civilization.&nbsp; A place that has seen its fair share of epics.

  • Kiriwhakapapa Shelter

    Situated at roadend below Blue Range. Sleeps: Only the desperate. Heating: No - though fires have been lit inside it. Camping: Unlimited.

  • Kime Hut (old paint job)

    A famous (and cold!) Tararua hut, located on the Southern Crossing.&nbsp; Spectacular on a good day, but expect cold and clag.&nbsp; The hut is now cream and red.

  • Kapakapanui Hut (old paint job)

    Situated on the slopes of Kapakapanui above the Waikanae river.

  • Mangahao Flats

    Situated on a high terrace up the Mangahao river this hut&nbsp;recieves less attention than it deserves. Sleeps: 12 on bench bunks. Heating: Potbelly. Camping: Yes.

  • Mcgregor Biv

    A superb biv, located at the bush edge on Mcgregor spur, a visit normally means you are en route to or from the wonderful mid-upper reaches of the Waiohine. Sleeps: Two (low bunk plus floor) heating: No. Camping: You could camp on Mcgregor spur next to the tarn directly above the biv.
