Have you wondered who pays for the bolts to bolt climbs? I asked someone at the weekend and found out that for Kawakawa Bay, the Taupo Climbing Club funds the bolts. The Taupo Climbing Club was set up to fundraise fir bolting, promote safety and provide information.
Kawakawa Bay is being developed at the moment by a few keen volunteer climbers. This summer 20 new routes will be put up (currently there are approx 60 at Kawakawa Bay and potential for another 100).
It costs $20 per year to be a member and the money goes towards bolts for new climbs.
