I’ll be leading a day trip this Saturday up Colonial Knob.
Low to moderate fitness is suitable for this trip. If you’re super fit, that’s ok. We wont treat you any differently.
Bring your Camera because you'll think you've sprouted wings when you reach the top of the hill with views on a clear day of both Mt Taranaki and the Kaikoura Ranges, not to mention the surrounding country side. The seaward outlook takes in Kapiti and Mana Islands and, on a clear day, the South Island.
The walk will take up to 5 hours. Depending on numbers, we will either meet at the Wellington Railway Station at 11am, Platform 9, and catch a train North, or we will organise cars. We will be returning just after dark which will allow us to see beautiful glow worms =)
Although we will be walking through native bush much of the time, we will also be on the exposed hill top for the views so dress warmly and bring a raincoat. Boots are recommended but solid shoes are ok for this one.
Following the walk, we will be heading down the hill to a bar where they serve BEER. That’s right, BEER. We may even factor in some fish & chips.
All in all, this will be a pretty cruisy fun trip, that doesn’t require a heap of gear or a high level of fitness or experience. You will need to be comfortable walking in the dark for up to half an hour at the end of the night in order to see the glow worms.
When: 11am Wellington Railway Station (unless we decide to car it)
What to bring: Rain coat, lunch / afternoon tea, sturdy shoes or boots, a torch, and your camera!
Afterwards: BEER
See you there!
