     Dawn Raids: 9 Months On

                            Thursday 31st July, 7pm

                            Newtown Hall, Daniell Street, Newtown (opposite Mediterranean Food Warehouse)

     

    Speakers: Moana Jackson (Ngati Kahungunu, Ngati Porou), Jane Kelsey (Arena trustee, Professor Law at Auckland University), Kiritapu Allan (Conscious Collaborations) & others.

     

    The speakers will cover a range of topics including Tino Rangatiratanga,perspectives on where things are at nine months on, the Terrorism Suppression Act (TSA), the broader context of the raids, and personal experiences.

    * Lunchtime Forum on the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation

                            Monday 4th August, 12-1pm

                            Centre for Global Action, Level 2, James Smith Building, corner of Cuba and Manners Malls

     

    Come and meet Dr Jacques Diouf, the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations. Food security, food sovereignty, the current food 'crisis' – it's what everyone is talking about. Here's your chance to come and hear what the FAO has been doing and what it's going to be concentrating on in the future.

     

    The current Director-General, Dr Jacques Diouf of Senegal, was elected in 1993 and began his first six-year term in January 1994. After completing a second term, Dr Diouf was re-elected to a third six-year term, which began in January 2006.

    * VicIDS panel discussion: 'Bretton Woods Institutions – Doing Harm or Doing Good?'

                            Monday 4th August, 6pm

                            CO304, Cotton Building, Victoria University Kelburn Campus

     

    We will be hosting a panel discussion with a focus on the Bretton Woods Institutions and their role in development.

     

    We will have several panellists including Victoria University economics and international relations lecturers and representatives from NZAID and the Council for International Development.
