    Gecko News

Our next meeting will be next Wednesday at 12pm, in Meeting Room 2 in the Student Union Building and we are lucky enough to have Pam Williams coming along to talk about environmental education.
We know that it can be hard to find time for things like Gecko, but it is amazing how much positive change a group like Gecko can make, so come along or email us ideas to keep Gecko energetic, and the group you want it to be!
If anyone has any speakers they would like to see come and talk to Gecko this semester, please let us know and we will try to arrange it.
More news and things discussed at the meeting are below.
     See you next Wednesday. :)

    1. Environment Week at Vic - 28 July-3 August
    2. Climate Change Symposium - Sharing the Burden
    3. E-Waste Day
    4. New Zealand Trust for Volunteers

    1. Mark Newton, the VUWSA environment officer is keen to hear about and fund any great ideas for Environment Week, so get in contact at makron5@gmail.com with any thoughts.

    2. This Symposium, entitled Sharing the Burden - How Should the Costs of Mitigating and Adapting to Climate Change be shared by the International Community will be held here in Wellington on Tuesday July 29 and is free, so it's a great opportunity to learn more about this aspect of climate change, and is relevant to anyone generally interested in the issue, and particularly students of Environmental Studies, Politics, Policy, Development Studies etc. For more info please contact me (Terra).

    3. E-Waste Day in Wellington will this year be on October 4, and is a chance to safely dispose and recycle all your old appliances. Details for how to do this, and how to volunteer, will be sent out nearer the time.www.eday.org.nz

    4. The New Zealand Trust for Volunteers is a web-based forum where groups can share what they are up to, advertise for volunteers, and somewhere you can go to discover how to get involved in your community and environment. It's definitely worth a visit at http://www.conservationvolunteers.org.nz/
