    Youth Connect

    Hello,

Here is something comming up that I thought some of you might like to check out:

"This August, we're connecting thousands of young people across the nation to talk about their dreams and share their vision for the future of New Zealand.

Young people come together for all sorts of reasons - to play sport, to make music, to make money and to socialise. It's not often we get together just to talk about something that we're all a part of. Whether you have all the answers, or just a vague idea of what you'll be up to next week, it's your chance to step up and contribute to the conversation about New Zealand's future.

Monday 13 August, 2007. YouthConnect (Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Invercargill)

Where will you be on Monday 13 August when thousands of young people meet?

Venues throughout New Zealand will be linked in real time - we'll be able to hear each other, see each other and get strength from each other. Our media teams will be capturing what we think and what we create. What we think will go forward to BizConnect on the 15th and GovConnect on the 16th.

Why do we care about what young people think, feel, and dream of?

Because, over the next 10 years, 1.2 billion young women and men will enter the working age population worldwide.  We will be the best-educated and the best-trained generation ever.  We have amazing potential for economic and social development. We can be an irresistible force for change, but New Zealand needs to start using our skills, enthusiasm, and creativity.

More than ever before, young people are capable of expressing their ideas, aspirations, and fears in their own words.  Combine this with the huge range of communication tools that we are confident using, and the result is a generation of diverse and creative voices.

YouthConnect is the first and most integral part of Youth3. From the findings of this national forum a set of challenges will be assembled and presented at the follow-up events during this week.  BizConnect will gather together New Zealand's top business people to address these challenges and initiate action within the business community. GovConnect will workshop with government and its agencies and partners to improve the way they facilitate their youth services.

YouthConnect will be a day to remember - with amazing speakers, performers, activities, and most of all, a chance for you to get to know each other a bit better.  It's a day you'll want to share with your mates, with that guy you haven't seen since you were 13, with people you might never have otherwise met.

YouthConnect is an initiative that has been organised by youth for youth. We're led by a team of 21 year olds - and we're dedicated to making this an unforgettable experience for every young person that participates.  Contact the team if you have any ideas, questions, suggestions, complaints, compliments, or money to donate! (jokes, but seriously, if you know anyone...)
