I can't make myself due to external affairs to attend in town... But I could sugest/recommend Neil forks hut.

It would be a 6-7 hour day but it's a very nice hut by the river... I would try a swim there... It was too cold last time... :D

    Too much...

Well, Sayer hut is another nice spot 3 hours away from Mangatarere road end.

    Too short...

Renata is another option coming from Otaki forks. It's around 4-5 hours to the hut and another 20 minutes to the open tops with a really nice view of the valley.

All those less than around an hour driving apart from Sayer which requires crossing Rimutaka hills.

     :)

    MM.

Over night Saturday or Sunday? I see Mt Taranaki is cancelled.

    Yes it is :-(

I mean starting Saturday late, coming back Sunday (should be the better of the two days) late. Do you have a preferred hut?

Well, the crucial question (as always): Do we have a car?

    Cheers, Achim

Are you unable to start early on Saturday? I'm not a fan of starting late, not to bothered about which hut. Yeah I have a car

I don't want to go over night with this weather but am down for a Sunday day walk.

I feel similar. It will be unpredictable Tararua weather. There are chances for awesome views :-)

I would propose to walk from Waiohine Car Park to Cone and then we have the choice:

Ok sounds great, would you like to get away early because I can't be back to late on sunday, weather doesn't look to flash either but hey it's he Tararuas, if you want to catch the morning train to Upper Hutt we could go from there?  It's up to you,
