This weekend, we are making the drive way north to Te Kuiti (6-7hrs) to sample the coolest rock the N. Island has to offer, limestone!
Plan is for at least one car (mine) to head up thursday night, and either climb undeveloped boulders at a new spot called riverside and climb the sometimes steep, all weather, tightly bolted limestone at mangaokewa. Other cars will head up as usual, at 5pm from Hunter Carpark on friday. The weather looks great, especially towards the end of the weekend, so a premptive plan may be to sport climb friday, saturday at Kewa' then sunday morning/ saturday night head towards Paemako for a morning of cleaning, bouldering and FAs. Leaving early arvo so as to keep the drive home safe.
Homebrew will be supplied, and there are plans for mulled wine and fiso to drive off the cold.
At the moment my car is full, sign up at the meeting or email me at tombelgrano@gmail.com and we will try and get another few cars going.
No experience is required for this trip, there is some great easy climbs with very tight, good bolting to learn the trade on and club climbers are happy to take the time to teach you safely and comprehensivly. Bouldering should be entertaining for people at all levels, although packing foam (a boulder mat) will ensure you can climb what you want.
All tech gear and tents, stoves etc. is provided save shoes, we have a bunch, best check before we go to see if any fit, otherwise they can be rented from fergs kayaks, you will certainly need rock shoes for this trip.
Cheers, see you at the meeting, here's a pic of the crag classic, hopefully going down this weekend! Dont be phased however, this is as steep as it gets, and just below is a slew of great all weather climbs (grades 10, 19, 17, 21, 15, 20, 20, 23, 21, 17) to choose from!
