Summit Trip of Tongariro, Ngaruahoe and Ruapehu

    Hi guys,

As per the summit calender, I have been asked to organise a trip to Tongariro/Ngaruahoe.  To my horror I have just realised this weekend falls on the same date as the Test Match at the basin reserve (5th/6th Dec).  Would any of you mind if I postpone this trip to the weekend of 12th and 13th of December so I can watch my precious cricket?  Thoughts?

Well the weather looks good for this weekend, if you are keen to attend the trip and haven't signed up then flick me an email at tjhowarth@gmail.com or come down to the Welsh Dragon tomorrow night and I will have a sign up sheet.

A rough plan for the weekend is to camp at the Mangahuia campsite at the bottom of Whakapapa just down the road from National Park on Friday and Saturday nights.  Bring beer.

On Saturday we would walk the Tongariro crossing with a site trip to Ngaurahoe for those who are keen.  Hopefully we will have two cars and will be able to swap keys on the way over.

On Sunday weather permitting we could walk to the summit plateau on Ruapehu mess round there for a couple of hours before heading back to Wellington mid to late afternoon on Sunday.

Essentially this weekend will consist of a couple of day trips and a bit of camping.

The trip is down to myself and Matt from our Australian branch.  So in an effort to drum up interest and fill some space in my car I am wondering if there is any last minute interest from anyone?

The plan would be to leave early tomorrow 9am ish and drive up to Ketetahi carpark where we would walk to Ketetahi hutt and join Annabel and friends from the Hawkes bay branch.  Then on Sunday we would walk the Tongariro crossing exiting either at Mangatepopo or Whakapapa.

If I don't get enough interest I may pull the plug on the trip... :(
