    Rimutakas Day trip this weekend

    Hi all,

This weekend I'm running a trip into the Rimutakas. Ideally we'll have two groups so we can offer an easy option and a harder option. The fitter group will be heading to Mt Matthews.

The trip will only be $5. The fit group will be leaving before 8am on Saturday, the easier group may leave later. Get in touch with me if you are interested and let me know what fitness level group you would like to be in. The fit group will be climbing at least one, maybe two 800m hills and have a decent river walk. The return trip will be a fairly brisk 8+ hours.

Re: Rimutakas Day trip this weekend

    Hi all,

The weather looks much the same both days this weekend so I think we'll go on Sunday due to Andy's party being on Friday night and it gives an extra day for the river to go down from the rain earlier in the week (though be aware there is a little bit due again on Sunday early morning, the rest of the day should be fine)

The walk will probably progress something like this:

    - Climb to the top of the Eastern Hills

    - Drop down the far side into the gully

    - Travel along some trails / off track for a a couple hours

    - Climb back over the Eastern Hills and head back to the car

As with all good Eastern Hills walks there will be a stop at an ice-cream shop on the way back to the car.

    You will need to bring:

    - A good, waterproof jacket

    - Warm clothing

    - Lunch and snacks

    - A torch (we always take one of these even if we don't expect to be back late)

Can everyone who has a car or can get access to one let me know? We only have mine at this stage. I'll be in touch by email on Saturday to let you know what the travel arrangements are. At this stage it's looking like you will need to catch a bus to Eastbourne. I'll send you bus details if you need to do this. It's approx $5 each way.
