    Freshers - March 2012!

    Hi everyone,

     

    Freshers is coming up next weekend (16-18 March) and it will be a great trip as we expect at least 50 of you to be joining us.

    Leaving on Friday evening on a bus around 5pm, it is an easy tramp for beginners and great introduction to tramping in New Zealand.

    We are walking to Totara Flats and camping overnight and then around Mt Holdsworth on Sunday (about a 4 hour walk Sat/Sun). These are in the Tararua mountain region if you want to look it up.

    Make sure you check out the gear list for the essentials so you don't get caught out.

    Want to come along? Get more infos and sign up on our First Meeting on Tuesday (13 March) at 7:30PM in the Memorial Theatre (VUWSA Building, Kelburn Campus).

    Important: If you have signed up you will be put in a group. An email Wednesday will inform you of your group leader. You will hear from your group leader by Thursday. If you do not receive this please email Michael on mjeatson@gmail.com as we may not have the right contact details for you. If you have to pull out of this trip please let Michael know ASAP. You can also get in contact via phone 0277731396

     

    Time

    Meet at the Hunter Carpark 6pm Friday. Please eat before arriving; the bus is not capable of stopping. We will return to the Hunter Carpark by about 7pm Sunday.

     

    Cost

    $30 Please pay after the Tuesday meeting or on arrival Friday. If you cannot pay at either of these times you must talk to Michael. You are expected to be a club member ($20 students, $30 non student) to go on this trip. Please note you will also be required to provide your own breakfasts and lunches as well as something for a group dinner on Saturday night.

     

    Emergency Contact

    The Emergency contact for this trip will be Anne Smith on 04 568 5773 or 027 469 4033. Please let your flatmates/family know this. This is the person they should contact in the event the group is overdue or if there are other issues.

     

    Gear

    You need to have all of the following gear to go on this trip. If you cannot get any of this gear, contact your group leader who will assist.

    ·         Pack you can carry on your back for upto 5 hours and Packliner (big rubbish bag is fine) to keep everything including your sleeping bag dry!

     ·         Raincoat

    ·         2x Breakfast + 2x Lunch + snack food +drinks

    ·         Polyester top and bottom

    ·         Warm Jersey

    ·         Boots or Sturdy sneakers

    ·         Sleeping Bag

    ·         Snow foam/Bed roll

    ·         Drink Bottle

    ·         Bowl/Mug/Cutlery

    ·         Torch

    ·         Sunblock

    ·      Personal Medication

    ·         Walking clothes and togs+towel if you want to swim

     

     

    You may wish to bring other gear – that is fine, but just remember everything you bring, you have to carry! If you have any questions please ask your group leader before we meet on Friday night.
