    Summer Hut Bagging

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A VUWTC ORGANISED EVENT

    HOWEVER, CLUB TEAMS COULD ENTER!

Get to as many huts as you can in the Tararuas over any 4 days of summer.

Prizes to the value of $500

    When: Between 21 December 2006 and 10 April 2007

    Objective:

Every hut in the Tararuas will be given a value according to its remoteness, 10 points for Parawai, 100 for Carkeek Ridge etc. Choose any 4 days over summer to collect points by visiting the huts.
Earn extra points by taking more people on each trip and involving more family members.
What is a Day and a Journey?
The 4 days can be split into 1-4 Journeys. The time for each Journey starts when competitors leave the entry carpark and ends when they arrive at the exit carpark.
Each Journey can start at any recognized entrance to the park and end at any recognized entrance. A list of allowed entrances and the timing points will be supplied with the entry pack.
A day is any 24 hour period. Each Journey comprises a whole number of days e.g. a trip of 26 hours is 2 days. The intended number of days must be declared before the journey starts.
No wheeled or powered transport can be used while on the course (between the entry and exit carpark).
    Teams
The prize will be awarded to the individual with the highest score. However people can only compete on the course as a team of at least 2. This allows competitors to get into the hills with a variety of people over summer and preserves the safety margins needed.

Go to http://outdoor.co.nz/events.aspx#hutbaggers to enter and find out more.

    Blog Site :

They also have a blog site up and running: www.hutbagger.blogspot.com. It would be great to hear the stories and see the photos so don't be shy. And to motivate you, there will be prizes for best photo and best story.
