BAAA - Newsletter of the Victoria University of Wellington Tramping Club

Volume 17, Issue 2, June 1998

From the Editor's Coffee Table

Well, well, well (three holes in the ground?) here we are in the middle of the year and it's time for Baaa 2. The year has been flying by and it has been great meeting all the keen new members and changing them from eager, fit novices to hot-pool soaking geriatrics like myself J (where exactly is Penn Creek?).

Nyree and I have been getting a good response from people going on club trips and we have received articles from most of the trips so far this year which is great. Remember, if you write an article be it for a club or a private trip and it doesn't end up in Baaa it doesn't mean that it will never see the light of day, all articles that we get will almost certainly go in Heels (whether they have been put in Baaa or not).

This issue includes a first and a hasn't happened for a long time. The first is an article by our Transport Officer Matt Ravlich. Matt has been in the club 10 years and has never put pen to paper up until this point, we are truly not worthy. The hasn't happened for a ong time is the resurrection of SAR Baaa. Mike Cotsilinis has kindly taken the time inform the club about search and rescue, what it is and how to get involved.

That's about it for now
Keep writing up those trips and Spotcha in the Hot-pools

The year is really is really hurtling along now, it's hard to believe it's almost July already. The tramping is going well, I'm happy to say, even though on occasions there hasn't been much tramping, but actually a lot of soaking in a rather damp place, otherwise known as the Taupo Hot Springs. I guess with Mr Pike and Mr Ravlich attending, what else could you expect? But the important thing is, we're receiving a lot of articles from various people. Yay! It's a lot of fun reading them, as I'm sure you will find out. Personally I'm quite excited to be able to include some information about SAR, courtesy of Mike. I've heard people asking about it, so hopefully the article should answer some questions. And it didn't even take too much badgering! Anyway, thanks very muchly Mike!!!!! Thanks to everyone writing anything - it's much appreciated - and it's good to have such a great response. People also seem to be generally pleased with Baaa itself, but again if you have any suggestions, don't be backward with coming forward. Any constructive criticism will be gladly received. My mid-winter trip is going fairly shortly, so I'll just use this chance for a bit of aggressive publicity - go on my trip!!!!!!! It'll be fun! Go on, you know you want to! (Anyone else remember the present president's previous answerphone message?)

Keep tramping , seeya round

Nyree
