BAAA - Newsletter of the Victoria University of Wellington Tramping Club

Volume 17, Issue 1, April 1998

From the Editor's Coffee Table

We're back! Well Baaa is, after an absence of a year and in a totally new format we are back doing the VUWTC newsletter thing. For those of you who don't know (which is most of you) Baaa is one of the club publications. In the past it was a mini-magazine similar to Heels (the big club magazine). This year we are going to put out four issues of Baaa in a newsletter format. This has two main advantages; firstly it's less work for us, and secondly it will keep you up to date with what is going on in the club. I guess we would like some feedback on what people think of the new design. You can tell either Nyree or I what you think and if you have any good suggestions we might incorporate them into later issues, we might not.

What do we need from you? Well stories would be good, gossip (dob in your friends), quotes, photos, poems, anything at all really. We may not put it in Baaa but anything we do get will definitely end up in Heels (well, almost definitely).

That's about it from me. Have Fun, get writing up those trips and Spotcha in the Hills.

Assistant Editors Bit

Well, it's a start of a bright new year, and with it comes a bright new "Baaa". We hope you like it - though any constructive input would be appreciated. Any articles, gossip, news, photos etc would also be welcomed. Mind you, the year's not so new anymore. The TC year seems to be going well so far, with lots of participation and enthusiasm. Keep it up! Personally I haven't been able to do much tramping recently, due to (bloody) work and going on a long awaited holiday around NZ with my German penpal. But I went on Bash on Thru, which was a load of fun, even though not many markers were found on the first day (ie: none). We swear revenge guys - so watch your backs! I should have a bit of spare time coming up, so I hope to see you on an upcoming tramp (you'll soon recognise me - I'll be the one harassing, cajoling, tempting, persuading and even threatening you to contribute articles. You'll learn to leave the room when I arrive....).

Happy tramping

Nyree

Quotes

Kapiti:
Dave R: "I feel 15 times better"
Doug then paces off up hill.
Doug: "I thought you were feeling 15 times better."
Dave R: "I feel 15 times better but that's in American - you have convert that to metric"

Freshers:
Tash: "Did any of you guys pinch me?" (After getting bitten by an eel).
Neal: "Don't light a cooker like this" (with his hand on the fire).
Dave R: "I would rather be mounting up a tramp than tramping up a mount".

Bash on thru:
Dave W.'s clue: "20 - 30m east of the knobby bit"
Doug looks thru window at 8:40am on Saturday morning. Dave realises he is late: "Fuck, fuck, fuck...(pause).. oh fuck". And the excuse? "I may have got out of bed, walked across the room, turned off the alarm, and gone straight back to bed".

Gossip:
Well, guys - this is where you come in handy! We don't have too much gossip, so you're going to have to help us out. Any interesting tidbits - either true, kind of true, or even completely made up - will be much appreciated! OK - put it this way: if you don't tell us something, we may just have to make it up....
