Ascent of Mitre, Tararua Ranges - 12/13 November 2011

Mitre is the jewel in the crown of (and at 1570m the tallest mountain in) the Tararua Ranges.....

The mountain was named after its double peak that resembles a bishop's mitre (the second peak being peggy's).

An exciting excursion to scale said Mitre will be launched by a star-studded posse brimming with VUWTC celebrities and characters on the weekend of 12/13 November with base camp being Mitre Flats Hut nestled gently like Rivendell on the banks of the Waingawa River. It will be a fun ascent with a wicked view at the top if it is clear that you simply won't want to miss out on - SO fire it up and come to the meeting on Tuesday (8 November 2011) at the Welsh Dragon Bar on Courtenay Place (near the Tasting Room/ Embassy Cinema), sign up and get involved!!
