Next weeks meeting is the most important one of the year.

We have our AGM this coming Tuesday the 23rd of October. This stands for Annual General Meeting and it is when the club committee reports back on the activity of the club over the past year, gives a summary of accounts, presents the budget for the next year and discusses any other general club business that needs discussing. Most importantly, this meeting is where we elect the members of the committee for next year.

If you have been thinking about running for a role on the committee you can read a brief description of each role then see here. If you would like to know more about a particular role feel free to email questions through to the current committee members.

We will have pizza and snacks before the meeting from around 7pm, and start the meeting at 7:30pm.The meeting is in the usual rooms SU 217 and 218.

If you haven't been to a meeting in awhile then this is a good one to come along to.

Look forward to seeing you there :)

Once we have the design finalised and an idea of numbers we'll be able to give an idea of cost and take the design to a printing company.

So if you have any ideas/designs send them though!

Come along to the meeting on Tuesday if you would like it back. I would also be interested to hear how you managed to forget it and not realise, seeing as sleeping bags can usually take up a decent percentage of space in a pack :)

Mid-Winter Christmas

If you have signed up for this trip then you should have recieved an email by now.

There will be prizes for the best christmas dinner and best christmas beverage so get thinking about what your group could prepare for dinner on Saturday!

We will meet at the Hunter Carpark at 9am and stop at a supermarket on the way to sort out group food. We will be back home around Sunday afternoon.

Bring a small gift for Santa's sack and your normal tramping gear. You will also need to pack lunch for Saturday and Sunday, and breakfast for Sunday morning.

We will be staying in Mitre Flats Hut in the Tararuas which is a serviced hut, so you will need either 3 hut tickets or your annual back-country hut pass. Hut tickets are availble from the DoC office on Manners Street and some outdoors stores in town.

DoC are due to remove the gas-cooking facilities at the end of August so we will be just in time to make the most of the serviced hut.

If you missed the meeting, or didn't get the chance to sign up you can still sign up online using the Trip Sign-up form HERE

If you have already signed up I am in the process of sorting groups so you will recieve an email from your group leader within the next day or so.

Any questions? Firstly the trip will run from the 7th July to the 15th July. We will leave Wellington on Saturday morning by ferry on the 7th. We'll get to Picton around midday-ish and drive down to Arthurs Pass. We will camp there on our frist night, as it's about 5 hours drive from Picton.

We will then start tramping on Sunday morning. The plan we are
looking at so far is pretty awesome and will involve: glaciers, hotpools, visiting
the highest hut in Arthurs Pass, and a mix of some easy days and some
longer days (generally longer as packs get lighter). We will aim to
finish the tramp by the following Saturday. We will leave early Sunday
morning 15th and drive back to get the ferry, arriving home in Wellington later that day.

You will need some experience with ice-gear (crampons, ice-axes) in order to come on this trip. Ideally you will have attended AIC the weekend before the trip.

If you want to come on this trip let us know asap as we will be looking at booking the ferry by the end of this week. We need to have definite numbers so that we can find the cheapest transport option. You can sign up here: http://vuwtc.org.nz/cs/content/TripSignUp.aspx if you want to come on this trip and haven't already signed up. If you have signed up you will have already recieved an email from me.

Cheers

Mae
