Winter Skills and Risk Management Training Courses Available from OPC

Just saw this on the FMC May newsletter and thought I would post here for any interested:

The Outdoor Pursuits Centre (OPC) is offering a range of Winter Skills Courses and a Risk Management Training

Course from late June through to mid-August 2012. Courses include Introductory and Intermediate Mountain Skills -

each 5 days duration from 6 - 10 August, and Avalanche Awareness - Stage One - 7 days duration from 6 - 12

August. Costs include accommodation, meals and use of some equipment/gear. The Risk Management Course

runs from 25 - 29 June and the cost includes meals and accommodation. For further information on how to enroll, or

Freshers - March 2012!

Hi everyone,

Freshers is coming up next weekend (16-18 March) and it will be a great trip as we expect at least 50 of you to be joining us.

Leaving on Friday evening on a bus around 5pm, it is an easy tramp for beginners and great introduction to tramping in New Zealand.

We are walking to Totara Flats and camping overnight and then around Mt Holdsworth on Sunday (about a 4 hour walk Sat/Sun). These are in the Tararua mountain region if you want to look it up.

Make sure you check out the gear list for the essentials so you don't get caught out.

I'm sure FMC's scholarships must be a well known fact but we should apply for this for the mid-winter trip!

Hey Mikey I don't have any overtrousers and wondering how legit the gloves have to be. Waterproof? I have those thin katmandu ones.
