Guy Fawkes at Palliser

Hi all,

Next weekend (5th-6th Nov) we will be having a Guy Fawkes celebration at Cape Palliser.

For those of you who have not been to Palliser before it's somewhat of a tramping club tradition and generally involves fire, beer and general tramping club antics of all forms.
It's only a short walk from the roadend and there is a waterfall and stream to swim in, if the weather/sea allows it there is the opportunity of swimming in the sea/gathering paua.
We shall be leaving on Saturday (usually this happens at various times with people arriving throughout the day).

I myself am quite busy with study at the moment so I will be heading out to Palliser some time just after lunchtime on Saturday and heading back to wellington earlyish Sunday, however I am sure that there will be people staying on to have a relaxed Sunday lounging about (hopefully) in the sun in case you want to come back later.

Reply here, or come to the meeting next Tuesday (Tuesday 1st November).

Please bring a tent if you have one, drinks, food and fireworks.

Hey Guys,

We still need to get the majority of the shelving out of the old gear shed and install it into the new one so this Sunday there will be a tramping club working bee to get the new shed in order.

Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the day by the club to anyone helping out.

If you have a battery powered drill and (imperial) spanners or socket sets, bring them along as it speeds up taking apart the shelves.

I propose a meeting time of 11am at the old gear shed on Waiteata Rd

Big thanks to everyone who helped out last night, we will be going back to remove the shelving from the old shed tonight and and help will be much appreciated. Also if you have a battery drill bring it to speed things up.

Daytrip this weekend

I will be running a day trip this weekend, it's planned to go up Mt Matthews in the Rimutaka FP but if people are keen we could easily change it to somewhere closer/different. I am leaning towards next Sunday as far as the date goes.

Ok 22 people have signed up, so far we have two *possible* vehicles and myself confirmed to be able to take myself + 7, if anyone could find another car to bring along that would be awesome.

Hi All,

This coming weekend we have a tubing trip planned for the lower tubing lower tauherinikau river (near featherston in the wairarapa).

The details of exactly when we go are reasonably fleixble we could either do friday night/saturday saturday/sunday or there is also the option of doing it as a day trip depending on what suits people best.

You will need to sort out your own wetsuit, dive shops rent them out and some food.

Youll also need decent shoes that you dont mind getting wet.

Knowing how to swim is ideal but in lieu of that thrashing around in the water and bouncing off the bottom generally works too.

If it ends up being an overnight trip you'll need a dry bag (a new mountain safety council packliner works too) a light (preferably nylon) sleeping bag, and a minimal amount of other gear/clothes etc...

The club has some tubes in the gearshed but these may or may not be swiss cheese so if you don't want to risk giving the tube mouth to mouth for the whole trip perhaps a visit to beaurepairs would be in order.

A life jacket may also come in handy if you have one.

Gear

Hi all,

With the start of the year and the Freshers - the biggest trip on the calendar just around the corner it's important that we have enough gear (tents, cookers etc...) back in the gear shed.
If anyone still has gear lurking in their bedroom/car/garage/snow cave could you please arrange for it to be returned ASAP.

If you have a gear shed key it would be great if you could return it yourself otherwise there are a couple of ways I can facilitate this:

Eeither you can drop it to me at uni.

Or you could drop it to the stall at clubs week - let me know beforehand so that I know to pick it up.

The other option is that I can come pick it up off you this weekend.

Whanganui NP

Hi All,

I'm down on the calendar to run a trip to Whanganui NP this weekend, unfortunately I'm down in Christchurch for work so wont be able to lead the trip, but if anyones keen to go along post here or email me harrys_laptop@hotmail.com and it might end up that the trip has enough people to go away.

There are a few options as to what the trip could entail, http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/manawatu-whanganui/whanganui/matemateaonga-track/ , http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/manawatu-whanganui/whanganui/mangapurua-kaiwhakauka-track/ are two more keen (long day) options and the Jet boat hoon would make for a fun end to the trip.

Theres also the option of doing a combination of day trips in the area, or a shorter tramp if people want to have a cruisy weekend.

Post here if keen and we will see if its possible to get a trip going.
