This from an email I received from MSC Wellington:

The evening is really a basic lesson/overview in the avalanche area. The evening will be presented by Steve Schreiber (MSC Avalanche Programme Manager), with a talk from Jamie Fitzgerald (current record holder for crossing the Atlantic and has recently completed expedition to South Pole). We do have spot prizes of equipment from Black Diamond and vouchers to attend Avalanche Courses.

Now I know that most members of the VUWTC are hard as nails but for those that don't want to sleep in the snow ( or day shelters! ) etc, one of the best value places I've fouind for skiers / boarders is Slalom lodge. They have drying rooms and a Bar etc etc and it is about as cheep as you will find in the area for 4 walls and a roof ( $ 24 per night ). I stayed there a fair bit last season and reckon you can't go past it. also only 15 min to the top-o-the-bruce ( it is near Rarimu north of National Park)

Mouton Noir are the company that bought out Fairydown and brought it back from the brink after its episode of selling their products under the brand 'zone' in Australia. Apprantly they ( Aussie males) don't like wearing anything with the word ' Fairy' in it. As it transpired they didn't like 'zone' much either.

There is a good write up about Mouton Noir and who they are in the current issue of NZ Wilderness ( along with Sarahs review of the Holdsworth - Jumbo - Shingle peak trip).

Hey!

If you really want to get around the whole charge thing...Make friends with a Design or Arch student. When i was there we had access to very extensive (and expensive) scanners, imagers, whatsys, do-dahs and thingees. All of which make average photos look good and put standard scans to shame.

Just thought that it might be an option for some of you.

My washing machine just ate a hole in my almost brand new Gore-Tex jacket.

Gutted.
